-- Thinmodem update? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9788)
I own a Card Access Thinmodem. Anyway, according to their FAQs, a V.90 56Kbps code update should be available "by the Fall".
Well, it's now Winter and still no sign of the code update. I tried emailing Card Access but I got no reply at all.
Anybody else know when (or if at all) they are going to give out (or sell) the code update?

If I remember correctly, the person I spoke with at Comdex said that the update would be out sometime in December.

Still Fall
Remember, the Winter Solstice is not until the 21st of Dec (or 22nd) so technically the update isn't late! heheh.

In my opinion, Card Access is a great company - they want to do it right. Here is the info I got from Card Access:
They are currently working on the upgrade and hope to have it complete by the FIRST OF THE YEAR. The problem with V.90 is related to the Palm OS. Currently, an upgrade will do little in terms of speed and overall user experience. Even though you may get a V.90 connection, the processing speed of the Palm comm driver will limit you from realizing any benefits. In fact it may be more of a negative overall experience due to the fact that V.90 takes longer to connect and train the connection compared to V.34. The Palm OS driver needs to be modified. V.90 really will be a marketing tool, and no better than V.34 unless the Palm OS driver is also modified.
Interesting, mcmanaman - thanks for the info.
Yes, I think CardAccess is a great company too - I'm very satisfied with my Thinmodem so far and although I own a Handspring modem as well (bought before the Thinmodem came out and which I needed badly at the time because of my job) I've totally swtiched to the Thinmodem.
Having used both, I think the throughput of the Thinmodem is actually better than on the Handspring modem.
