-- Visor zaps USB, computer reboots (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1811)
My Visor was politely laying on the bubble wrap it was packaged in, when I picked it up (buy its plastic case) and placed it in the hotsync cradle (also plastic) when I heard a strange sound -- "zzzzzt" -- followed by the sad sound of my desktop rebooting.
I suspect that the Visor picked up a static charge somehow, and propelled a spike through the USB into the computer.
No damage was done, but I will be sure that all of my work is saved (on the desktop) before I next set the Visor in its cradle.
Same thing happened to me on two different occasions. Drop the Visor in the cradle and BOOM - automatic reboot.
Of course, I can't get my multi-USB setup to sync AT ALL without unplugging all other USB devices (it hangs the machine, otherwise), so I have a host of other problems that make the occational 'autoreboot' seem minor.

I think mine zapped my modem. When it tried to dial up for Avant-go my modem was making a bunch of weird static noises, and still is. It was fine all day before that.
Then again, I spilled wine all over my cradle.. think that might have done it?
I tell ya what, don't ever get a winmodem. Biggest piece of sh!t I ever bought. So much for waiting for the DSL that never is going to show up.
Just a follow-up, the reboot upon placing the device in the cradle was not a one-time event. It happened again this afternoon, without any tell-tale "sssst" sound that would indicate a static charge.
I haven't got a visor yet, so I wouldn't know..
But, yeah! I'd suspect that any kinda liquid would short circuit the cradle, or any other electronic peripheral.
Anyway.. later!

I've had this happen to me also on a couple of occasions, although I didn't hear any zapping sounds. Not sure what causes it.
Hi, all.
I posted a reply here about the system rebooting when attempting to dock a handheld. Here's the link:

In short, it's static. Just tap on the dock's connectors to dissipate the static prior to docking.
You will also notice all the posts are from december and january. It's cold, dry, and most of us have carpets- which makes for absolutely fabulous weather for static electricity
Hope this helps!

we'll continue this discussion in the thread posted in the message before this one!
