-- Case for Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3200)

Question

Now that the Visor is ready to ship, I wonder what type of case other potential Visor users are planning to use (since reports have indicated that the "free" case is nothing to write home about). I currently have a IIIx and a zippered case in which the Palm is held in position by a velcro strip. The position of the springboard slot in the Visor means that I will no longer be able to use this case.
I have looked at the custom cases on the new Handspring web page and the least expensive case is about $60!

What!? I think you must have looked at the wrong thing. The least expensive case is $19, and the MOST expensive (other than custom) is $39. Unless they changed it already. Still, I know what I'm getting for Christmas!

I ordered a Rhino Skin ShockSkin case for mine from the PalmGear site.

Wink

I ordered the black Ultra-soft Calf Case with initials. Hey, if you want a dead cow protecting your techno wizard Visor then it's a small price to pay.

I am certain that the "dead cow" comment will spark some retorts but I was raised on a farm..I guarantee you the way that the cows are slaughtered is extremely humane and fun to watch!

O no more complaints will surely be following. I think I'll edit my profile and change my user name to Dead Cow Lover.

Yet even more complaints to will surely follow....

Honestly, based upon what I've seen in cases for other Palm devices 60 to 80 bucks for a good quality leather case is resonable. I've seen cases from some extremely high end providers that are more the the Visor.

And I'd bet that the cow they used for that case wasn't raised on Champagne and Caviar. And it was probably slaughtered in the same manner as the $60 variety. Although, the hoofs were probably used to make gold color glue or something outrageous.

Sorry about the long message - I'm bored awaiting delivery of my Visor.

I hope I did well with my custom order... I am not really familiar with fabric/leather types:

I Got a Zippered Black Bright Analine to go with my Blue Deluxe... Any comments? Hopefully this case isnt too shiny like an eel-skin wallet I had years ago... Is Analine a leather? heh

Hope the image pops up,

Oh and the total for it was $77.45 with Express Shipping and tax...

My wife hit the roof (it took miracles to convince her just to allow me the Visor heh)

I got a case from InCase designs. They have a really smooth clam-shell-like opening one made of a molded neoprene and a fully lined inside, w spaces for stylus and cards and etc. It is slim and not much bigger than the visor itself. Shock absorbing and cheap (compared to custom cases)! Check it out at www.incasedesigns.com or look for a cheaper price at PalmGear HQ or someplace. They come in colors too, yet classy enough to look business like. For me (a college student), they are hip and funtional!

I think I'm going to try using the PalmIII Binder Attachment from FranklinCovey. Hopefully the slight variance in dimensions won't make it incompatible with the Visor.

Here's what it looks like:

Would cause probs w/ springboards and the stylus, but should work until Franklin releases a Visor specific version.

Question

I wanted to get a zippered case that also had a pad of paper on a flap that is on the opposite side of the Visor and flips over, like the devian dv4. But I don't like the fact that you have to attach the Visor with velcro for the Dv4. Would it be possible to get the flap inserted at a local leather shop? This would be great to put all my loose papers and also have a place to put my pad of paper. I don't know how bulky this would be though...any comments and suggestions?

I'm going with the cool but simple belt clip holster case.

This case holds the visor snugly, protects the screen, has relief for any attached springboards, makes it easy to carry or attach to briefcase and allows easy access to the Visor. Personally, I hate those "carry-all" style cases. It just seems silly to me to by a small computer and be concerned about size and then get a large leather case to carry it in. Most of these cases aren't going to work with Springboards and most of them require you to remove the Visor to sync. Sliding it in and out of a case is easy but opening up a leather binder and detaching the connectors would get old real quick. Now, if you are getting a Visor Solo and maybe a backup springboard then one of these fancy cases would be perfect. In that scenario you won't be syncing and the backup springboard will fit in the case and store copies of all your data.

Agree 110% Handsprung! I tried to order on of the belt clip holsters the day they came out, but the CSR told me it was too late to add it on to my order. I hate to pay $8.50 to ship a $19.95 item. Being from Canada, the U.S. exchange rate kills us!

I went for the Bifold Leather case (under value cases)...I didn't want to spend $60 or $70 for a case, but I *did* want one that had a stylus holder (allows me to use non-visor styli), a pen holder (always need one) and paper holder (sometimes you still gotta jot something on paper...like a map or directions). The bifold case seemed to be a good balance between price and functionality. (And I *know* that it'll fit the Visor)

Personally, I'll probably wait until 3rd parties start coming out with Visor-specific cases that have holders for the Springboard modules.

http://www.handspring.com/cgi-bin/H...UserTemplate/87

if not just go to the Handspring site and browse the cases. There are definitely a couple that have paper pads.

Question

I was looking for a really slim case with a belt clip for the visor. I didn't really like the idea of that plastic holster thing. And i don't care whether it's attached to the case or if you take it out. it just has to be small. oh and it's gotta have a hard front to protect the screen. Any suggestions? thanks a lot --- jeff

My concern with the belt clip case is whether I can still pat the hard cover that come with the Visor on and put it in the belt cases. 'cause otherwise that case will leave the screen completely exposed.

Posted by CHIA on 10-09-1999 07:19 PM:

Smile

If you look at the belt clip images on the Handspring site, you'll see that the Visor is actually slid in backwards. The screen would be facing inwards, where there is 100% protection. Only the back of the Visor will be slightly exposed.

Correct! And the open area on the belt clip case would show the back of the visor and has relief for an attached springboard, even one that would stick out on the top or back. Overall...best holder they have in my book!

Thumbs up

I think I'm going to get the holster. It seems to be the best thing for everyday use. I may get a leather case later for travel and stuff like that.

Thing is - if I order now, I may get it b/4 my Visor ... darn!

Thanx RSGMOOSE!
I wish I could combine the bright aniline zippered case with the bi-fold case. I don't want things falling out of my case and I want a pad of paper with a place for a pen. Yes...I WANT IT ALL! This would all go into my purse so I don't have a big problem with portability. Maybe I should wait to see if any 3rd parties will make a case like that without using velcro to secure the Visor in. BTW, if you change your order for a Visor will that delay the shipping of your Visor further?

Can the Visor slide out of the top of the belt case, say when I bend over? Did anybody notice clips to hold against that?
