Live Long, Visor Edge

Less than two weeks after Handspring discontinued the Visor Prism, the small Visor Edge shares the same fate.

Well, I have to say that despite all the problems the edge has (and I've experienced them all), I am sad to see it go. The Edge was really the only pda out there that put design as high as functionality. The look and feel of the edge are still the best available, too bad it comes with static and unexpandability.

HS should update the edge to a PalmOS5.0 version with an SD slot, and finally shed those darn static problems. A color version would be nice too.

despite it's small size and nice feel, even my Treo is essentially a box with a screen and buttons. The next best thing design-wise is probably Palm's M series--sporting a design that feels ten years old and that is most decicedly bland.

Make it again, Handspring, and make it work right. You nearly had your finger on the market's needs, but you missed the functionality by a wide margin. But beauty, spot on.

Well, much as I hate to rag on the Edge (but, hey, I'm probably one of the few early ones here that still has theirs as a primary PDA), what would be the point? What would differentiate it from the OS5 M5xx variant that's sure to come along? If it's only the physical appearance, it'll be just as doomed as the current...errr...former Edge was. Its nice appearance didn't manage to help its sales much, evidently.

as much as I hate to say this, I think the edge was replaced by the treo90. I'd surprised to seen another edge design. but it'd be nice.

Still living on the Edge.

I still have my Edge, and it is my primary (and only) PDA. I plan to use it until it dies. It has been great for me. Works great with the Magellan GPS Companion (as you can see in the pictures). If a cheap, color Handspring model comes out for $150 or so, I may "spring" for that - but the Edge will always have a special place in my heart.

Here is a commemorative Photo Gallery of my Edge:

Having been roasted slowly over the fire pit that was HS edge support, I'd have to say it's about time.

Sigh. Another nail in the Handspring coffin. It's sad to see the Visor line die. It was a great innovation. Handspring just didn't choose to ride it out...

Well, I think it sucks. I am a Visor Pro user, and a Deluxe before that...and now I would never consider buying another Handspring product, now that they are phasing out the Visor handhelds. I even bought an upgrade Plan from Best Buy, which is now useless as there is nothing I can see to upgrade to with Handspring. I will just use this until the battery dies, if I can't find a replacement..and then see who's left....maybe Handera. But not Handspring. But I am sure Handspring doesn't bother with these forums...or even care. Just my 2 cents...

Smile The reports of my demise are greatly exagerated

I was just poking around the HS site when I noticed that metalic silver Edges are being sold by HS again. They must have found a box in the back of a warehouse.

If it couldn't do that when it was supported, why should it do it now that it's discontinued?

yuk yuk yuk
