Come on! Why is this site running NT? It is way to cool a resource to be wasted on such a poor excuse for a web server. All of these stupid problems could be avoided and performance increased 10 fold if you would install FreeBSD or Linux on this machine

We have been planning on moving the site to FreeBSD/php3/mysql for quite sometime, and now it is even more urgent. However, since all code of the main site is in .asp, it requires quite some work to change it into .php3. I am currently in the process of doing this.

The second dilemma is the new server - I am still wating for the Tyan motherboard.

However, I but together a temporary machine so that I can at least move the discussion board away from NT (you will have to live with an IP redirect for a couple of days).

We are doing everything we can to keep the server up...

Here is the gameplan:

1. Get the temporary server operational tomorrow.

2. Close discussion board tomorrow night and move it over to the new server.

3. Get the new main VC server operational (dual PIII 450mz, 256gb ram....)

4. Change the site from .asp to .php3

5. Move the discussion board and the main site to the new server.

Hey if your paying for a NT machine why note move it over to a G4 with a OSX server running it! or can it not do that. well either way, Mac kick NT's little !@#$#@%@!#$!@ !%!@#$1 !@#$^%^&$$%#%$ $%#&&**&$^%#%#$@ !

Excellent!! I am sure we will all be thanking you greatly. After all, this is the one and only visor site. As popular as it is I think it's nothing compared to how large it will become if its current position is properly leveraged. Keep up the good work! You guys rock.

Whatever staff is doing to improve an already great site is certainly worth a little inconvenience during the transfer. I patiently await the new and improved VisorCentral site. Great job.

Just one note for marcus. There's a tool called asp2php that is supposed to do the conversion for you. I've heard it works pretty well but I haven't used it personally. Search on freshmeat.net for the actual app.

This is a little offtopic.
I'm now deciding whether to get a PHP or ASP hosting service. Seems that most of you guys are pro PHP.;-)

May I know the advantages and disadvantages of each? Thanks!

I assume you ment 256 Mb Ram instead of 256 Gb... with current memory prices you'l be bankrupt if you buy that much RAM..

Luckly, we've been learning how to be patient while waiting for our Visors. So a couple of delays is totally acceptable.
