-- Outlook and Cable Modem problems (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12527)
I recently switched to Cable Modem access and am syncing with Outlook 97. Everything works fine, EXCEPT mail. It cannot find the SMTP servers or the POP3 servers.... it's like it doesn't realize that the computer is online. It's looking for a Dialup connection... I can't find the options to change this... please help.
I don't know if it's working for outlook 97 but in outook 2000 go to tools and choose accounts.
then go to properties of your mail account.
go to connection tab and choose connect using LAN
I hope it works.
Good Luck!

These are the settings (LAN) that I'm using. I can check email just fine thru Outlook, but when the Visor tries to do it in a Hotsync, it gives the "Cannot find SMTP server ...." and then "Cannot find POP3 server .....". I have installed the latest upadates to Office and the latest Palm Desktop (3.1 I think). Still a no-go. I like having the idea of having an "all-in-one" package and do not want to go back to Outlook Express and Palm Desktop as my PC management.
Try going through the Mail setup again. Click the HotSync icon, select Custom..., and go into the Mail conduit and click the Mail Setup button.

Thanks Mark but I musta done this a thousand times.
I even went as far as bypassing Outlook all together. I reinstalled the desktop software and selected Palm Destop as the default and chose Outlook Express. THEN I even deleted all of my old dialup connections.... made sure that all of my email accounts had "LAN Connection" selected. Within OE, email does fine... but when I Hotsync, the same problem... cannot find POP3/SMTP servers. It doesn't recognize the fact that I have an internet connection. Can this originate from the Network Neighborhood Properties Tab? Please help.
