damned if you do (ship it with bugs)

The press had review units in hand, no doubt for all intents and purposes production units, the day Visor was announced, 9/14. Sure, Handspring pushed to get them out ASAP, but since Visors have been in production for a while now there isn't the second option. Besides, Handspring is Jeff, Donna, and Ed, they've done it all before. The Visor is basically a 4th generation Palm unit with the only hindrance being a Palm III form factor and OS 3.x.

Maybe this can settle the bugs matter:

We have selection bias here. Most people here WANT Visor to be cool either b/c we love cool new gadgets...or because this is one gadget we already bought sight unseen...

SO it makes NO SENSE to point out here that new hardware or software may have gliches or "bugs" or whatever. In our rational moments, we all know it can and that some of these posts raise fair concerns. We all know most first-run products (even if based on older ones as the Visor is) can have problems... But no one here wants to hear that right now. It's like buying tickets to a big game and someone says your team is going to lose. They might be right but you're too excited to consider that, so that person is just a downer.

The REAL discussion will come after we get them, after using them for a month or two, and we can all be a little more objective.

As far as the issue of anxiety goes, I think people just translate this easily into anger. People want their new toy, and they want it YESTERDAY, darn it, and when they have to stew around waiting they naturally get annoyed. What they should remember is that it isn't even ON SALE yet! ;]
