-- Using Samsung 3500 phone as a modem (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10154)
I have a Samsung 3500 mobile phone using SprintPCS. I would like to know if it is possible to connect it to a Palm or Visor to use as a wireless modem. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how this could be done if it is possible.
Thanks
Start by reading through this thread. It's a rather lengthy discussion about using a cell phone with the Visor.
Basically, to use the Samsung 3500 with the Visor you'll need one of the following:
1) The Samsung data cable and a Mark/Space DataCord modem cable. This combination is required because the phone (I think) and Visor both use TTL-level signals and the above cables contain a conversion circuit to make them RS232. The DataCord is Visor-powered and is needed to convert the phone data cable's RS232 output back to TTL for the Visor (this gets real technical
).
2) A custom data cable (do-it-yourself) that essentially has a phone connector on one end and a Visor connector on the other. In order to build this, you will need to know the pin-outs of the phone and be able to locate a connector.
Following some details in the referenced thread above, I buit a custom cable for my Motorola StarTAC... works like a charm! It's not an easy thing to do, but it can be done. Most of the difficulty comes from the TTL-RS232 signal differences, and so far nobody offers a commercially available cable for use with the Visor.

MarkSpace has some Datacords in Stock!
I just ordered my DCH-M9 cable over the phone, they just haven't updated their site to reflect their new stock. Call them while they still have them!!! Good luck.
