Unhappy hotsync problem for mac

I have a prism that I was syncing at work on an iMac - it worked fine. Now I want to sync it on my Powerbook at home and it won't sync at all. I did a soft reset, but I don't think that's the issue. I have a Wallstreet G3 with a Macally usb card bus and a usb cradle. OS 9 and Palm Desktop 4.0. The hotsync manager doesn't identify the usb. So I tried Ir but that isn't working either. My mac identifies the Prism (Palm III), and everything is set up on the Prism and in Hotsync, but it just disconnects. I went to the Palm website and downloaded the IR enhance update, but I can't use it unless I can install it! My only other thought is that I do have a dial-up modem module, and I have dsl, so maybe I can call my computer and do it that way, but I was wondering if there is another solution, short of buying a serial cradle? Thanks for any help.

Lightbulb Questions

Hey,

Did you get the desktop software from handspring.com? If not download it...that may help.

Are you using a PC Card USB Adaptor?

Please explain the IR try in detail...Does the sync not work at all? How about when you are prompted to sync during install?

The Palm IR update isn't meant for the Visor Prism (or any palm os device with OS 3.5 or higher). I don't have any MAC experience, but as far as I know, the IR Hotsync relies on the IrComm protocol -- your Ir port should have a virtual COM number assigned to it. Make sure the Hotsync port matches this.

good luck,
