Definitely the Prism. Its screen is far from perfect -- there are nicer color Palm and Pocket PCs devices out there but, after using color, I would never go back to a monochrome device.

Color, you could always add a memory module of some sort to get the 16MB (Although they are not always seamless)

Battery life, outdoor use

I'm looking at purchasing a Visor Pro now, over the Prism, because the reviews I've read indicate the Prism is only good for "6 hours of continuous use" (while I don't expect that, it could be quite a while between rechargings), and that the color screen is difficult to see outdoors.

Color sounds nice, but I really don't have any need for it. What I do need is a machine I can count on for a long time. With the 16 megs, I expect the Pro will not be outdated very quickly (relative to other machines).

This is all based on reviews, however.

The Pro also has a rechargeable battery..?

But is that where you are going to spend the vast majority of your time?
I'm very annoyed the very *few* times I'm trying to use my Prism in bright sunlight and can barely (if at all) see the screen, but there are *many, many* more times when I was in dim light situations with my previous deluxe, that I also couldn't see the screen at all.

Memory doesn't have anything to do with how fast something is outdated..
The Prism and the pro use basically the same internals (besides stuff like color screen controllers). You can easily add much more memory later if you find you really need it.

Deciding between a Pro and a Prism, the choice seems obvious to me.
If the pro had a good backlight, there would be room for debate.

The Pro
i bought it because of the additional memory and that i can see the screen out of doors in bright sun lite when using my GPS. Also, i understand that the batteries don't last as long as the Pro's before they need to be recharged and when i am away for home on business for a few days with out my hot sync charged, i could have trouble.

I will wait until the Prism comes out with a better screen.

Using a GPS outdoors is a good reason to have a reflective screen, but for your other reasons, not so. Memory isn't an issue until programs like AvantGo (which can't be offloaded onto external memory) start getting massive in size. As for battery life, if you are on a trip somewhere, you would be crazy not to just throw your cradle into your luggage before you leave, with either the prism OR the pro.

The current Prism screen is great in the majority of situations.

The only good reason I can see for having a Pro is if you have a springboard GPS.

But a longer life per charge (probably due to the higher power requirements of the screen.)

I certainly can't argue with experience, since I only have reports and my experiences borrowing other people's visors.

For me too

Color doesn't add much value for me: My interest is largely text. Memory does add value. Charge life counts for a lot. YMMV.

Obviously I think there is already room for debate, but certainly good backlighting is an issue. For that matter, so is Flash ROM.

My Pro is already overdue, as soon as I have it and a chance to try it out, I'll post here if my experiences don't meet my expectations.

True it's not the same as original memory, but it doesn't need to be. There are actually very few programs that constantly need to be on one's visor. There are a lot of apps that are useless except in somewhat rare circumstances, and when you happen upon a circumstance which calls for that program, you just put in your memplug with PiDirect or equivalent, and then pull it out when you're done (but mine stays in most of the time anyway) or need to use another module. For example: games, ebooks, rarely used apps, photos, GPS maps. Also, many applications now don't care if they are in read only memory, it's just not that big an issue anymore.

I have an eyemodule, a thinmodem, a backup module, and a stand alone GPS in addition to my Memplug, and I have never run into a problem with not having enough built-in memory.

The only problem I can see with internal memory being an issue is with a GPS springboard.

It isn't so much color for me either as it is having a nice easily readable screen. Color does make certain elements much more enjoyable though

The first dozen or so times when you have to use a reflective screen in poor lighting conditions are times you remember. And I can't describe how happy I was with my Prism when I kept encountering those same situations which were not a problem anymore
