-- Prism replacement Treo 90 has arrived (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=23568)
Re: Re: Cyberpunk!
quote:They lied by omission. They didn't warn us that the secret fractal signals from teh Treo would build a network of nanotech tubules in our brains, tubules that would house the software agents from the distant future that would, eventually, recreate the evil cyber-entity that will only be known as... no... I must reveal the truth... stop... AUGH!

quote:Ok. Thank you for clarifying. I understand that you weren't directing your comments at me specifically. I'm not against the Treo (despite what my avatar may suggest....well, maybe the 90). However, I'm sure you can understand the frustration. Hawkin's himself promoted the springboard as a standard that Handspring would not abandon for a long time. If he didn't state this explicitly, then very strongly implicitly. Who remembers when he said that the springboard was engineered to stave off obsolescence for--oh, how many years did he say? I want to say eight or ten. That was a big selling point if I recall. 'Yes it's proprietary, but as a standard it's engineered to last' (paraphrase). Now obviously we could not expect the springboard to be marketable for ten years, but who expected Visor development to be curtailed so soon?

The Visor's are no more, no amount of pleading will bring them back AND if the Treo is not for you, then fine. Not you specifically, but why do people insist on writing smack about something they do not care for? Leave it alone. Buy a Handera or something, hell, even get a Sony or a Palm if they do it for you.

Make my computer do something really cool and psychedelic with texture maps and special effects! If you're one of the evil ones... never mind, I'll just be moving along now, all hail the ... whatever it is. Yeh.

i give up on HandSpring
glad to hear i'm not the only one peeved by handspring. like many of you, i own a visor, (a visor pro as a matter of fact) with a collection of springboards. all works fine for me and i can't possibly think of buying fickle sony products or the step-into-the-dark-ages treo in the future.
one day my pro will die just because it is expected that the lithium ion battery will finally **weep**weep** not be able to hold its charge.
does anyone have any ideas how i could keep my visor pro but be able to replace the battery?
thanks,

Anyway, I beg to differ with your determination that handhelds fall into consumer electronics. That designation connotes more leisure or recreational rather than critical or productive application. We need a new designation...
Regardless, with consumer electronics (phongraph, 8-track, cassettes, CDs, VHS, LD, DVD, etc.) we see a considerable lifespan of each of those media in stark contrast to the springboard. Imagine if CDs were just introduced and you bought them for three years straight (oh, and did I mention that each CD was $50-100?), then Sony and all of the other CD player manufacturers started ramping down the production of CD players and started promoting a new standard. That's what the consumer electronics space would look like if it looked like the life of the springboard.
quote:One problem with that. Unless they've suddenly added them, ATL doesn't sell Edge connectors or plastics (they only sell the hotsync connectors last I checked). If they did, I'd have tried it by now. OTOH, if I get a boatload of free time any time soon (not bloody likely), I might buy an extra SB adapter to experiment with.
