Thumbs down

Is anybody besides me amazed that people are still paying well over list price for Visors on eBay? There are something like 100 Visors for sale on eBay, and the going price is over $300 for Visor Deluxes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to find Visor Central and the Visors Received Log, and learn that most people are getting their Visors in three to ten days. Sheesh...

It particularly offends me that there are several profiteers that are selling multiple units while claiming that there is a 6-week wait. It would be nice if Handspring would torpedo these pirates by lowering the 4-week estimate on their Web site to reflect the actual situation.

My thanks to Visor Central for the Visors Received Log. At least people who do their homework don't fall into the eBay trap.

Are you employed. Are you offended by your company making money-i.e. profits?
Why in the world would you be offended by people selling and others willing to buy at market prices?

I don't know about the other guy, but I'm not offended by the eBay Visor stuff... it's just incredible. People have the right to sell stuff for whatever they can get, but it amazes me sometimes how much people are willing to pay for something that you can buy direct from the company for almost $100 less. I've seen Visor's recently sell for $345 on ebay! Oh well.. it's their money.

I'm certainly not offended, but think that it's unethical for sellers to claim that the current shipping time is 6 weeks when on average it is clearly much less.

The prices on Ebay seem high, but I wonder how many bidders are from outside the US/Canada? Is there anything wrong with someone making money in the export business?

Well when you think about it, the eBay purchases aren't that much different than buying a Palm __ at a retail store. I went to http://www.20-20consumer.com and did a search on the Palm V. You can buy it online for $289. Walk into a retail store and it will cost you $399.

And like bregent said, if you are outside the US and want a Visor now, how else are you going to get one?

I just find it amusing that the people who are online don't seem to figure out that you can BUY things online. Sure the price is a deal compared to retail.. but you have to bid online so why not buy online?

Reminds me of the Matrix DVD. You could get it at ANY online DVD retailer for 12-15 bucks and people on ebay were paying 20-25. It eludes me, but I won't hesitate to sell junk on ebay because I know some dip is going to pay well above its value.

"let the buyer beware" is nowhere more true than on E-bay.

Without question the prices are Goofy but You can't fault the sellers. It is up to the buyer to check the true lead times for the Visor. the sellers are not misrepresenting the delivery times because up until a couple of weeks ago, that is what the lead times were posted as.

Goofy people out there

1. I got my Visor in 5 days, not 4 weeks. I think you'll find that long delay time was a thing of the distant past when they were just getting rolling.

2. People have the right to buy or sell for what ever price they want -- it's a free market.

3. IF the time delay was there (the 4 weeks you complain of) and someone could deliver a Visor immediately for $50 extra then I'm sure there would be people who would feel that is worth the extra money.

4. Perhaps the people paying more than list price are from outside the USA where they are having difficulty getting Visors. I know that is the situation in some cases.

Or, do you prefer a state controlled economy and communism which ______NEVER_____ would develope this type of great product and would certainly NEVER let the prolitariate own any at any price...

Another reason is that right now, you can only buy Handspring in the US. There's a ton of people out there that want one but don't have easy access to someone in the US to send to. That's why they're willing to pay more.

Smile

have you noticed that, compare to 100s of visors at ebay.com, there is only 1 visor listed in yahoo auction now, and it's actually just a link to ebay.

interesting, hum?
