I've said it before but the red is ugly as sin, the blue is somewhat tolerable.

I like the Red myself, however its a close tie with the Blue, and the Silver isn't too shabby on its own. I like all three really!

Do we know if these cases are metal yet?

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

According to all the news leaks, it is metal. And judging from the sheer thinness, I would have to assume it is indeed metal.

Although the case may be metal, it still has to be painted in some way because red metal is not really a norm in the industry.

Or an alloy. It looks like paint to me, though. I like the red quite a bit, but the silver is a bit more professional.

If it's aluminum, it'll undoubtedly be anodized, which is a conversion process that penetrates the surface of the metal. It's available in a rainbow of colors and, unlike paint, will not flake off.

But wouldn't aluminum be a little soft for a case of a PDA. I don't know about you, but I have dropped my visor a couple of times (not too hard, but enough to dent aluminum), and I don't want to have to ship it back because of a dent in the finish. If scrtches are a big deal, then dents will be huge.

There are varying alloys of aluminum to choose from when designing a product. Mix in a little titanium and your Visor might dent what it hits, instead of the other way around.

When people think of aluminum, they think of aluminum cans. Aluminum with any thickness is actually pretty strong and will not dent. The Palm V is aluminum, isn't it?

Cool anodized aluminum

It's probably anodized aluminium. I think the case will be pretty strong. Rhinoskin have been making aluminium case, and most of fighter aircrafts are made of aluminium alloys. So I think that the strength of the case shouldn't be a problem. The force will probably destroyed the Edge's electronics before the case could be dented.

The anodized aluminium mean the color would not wear off like paint. That will be pretty sweet.

I think I just dislike the overall look of the Edge.

I think the Blue would be cool. As a green VDX onwer I just can't see myself in red. Hope they announce soon.

1) Yeah, I just read that on HS's site. (It's a pretty amazing overhaul, w/a ton of updated data -- and the 3D demo is sweet.)
Jeff designed the Palm V, so I wasn't suprised they used "AA." (What the heck is "anodized," anyway?)

2) I'd 2nd this.

If you check the CLOSE UP part of the 3D demo, though, you can clearly see the plastic that underlies the "AA." It's not like the Palm V, completely enclosed. But it "looks" (don't ask me how) like a slightly more "rubberized" plastic than, say, my ice VDX. All told, it looks like it could take much more impact than the plastic models.

As for color, I was surprised at how good the red looked, compared to the rest of the models. (I'd've never gotten an orange VDX.) As someone else stated, though, I wish they would make a black / graphite model. That's the one I'd get. If not, though, I'd prob. end up w/silver. If they only had blue when I ordered, though, I could stomach it.

But my next model will prob. be w/a color screen, really. I'll hang back for now.

Slim & metallic sure is tempting, though -- I bet EVERY single exec. presently w/a Visor upgrades to the Edge.
