Unhappy

I have seen many pages with tutorials on how to hack a palm III and the cradle to make it rechargable. I have also seen some pages with a hack that will eliminate the battery drain while it is docked. Unforutnatly none of these sights say whether or not these hacks work with a Visor. anyone out there know... I oculdnt find any archived topics relating to this here...! thanks! -Chris

The hack to eliminate the power drain when the unit is in the cradle is for Palm hardware only. This is because the Palm units have the serial voltage level shifter built in the handheld. When the unit is in the cradle, hotsyncing or not, this level shifter is turned on, thus causing some small battery drain.

But the Visor does not have the level shifter in the handheld, it's in the cradle. And it is powered by the computer that the cradle is hooked to - not the Visor.

Now I did read somewhere on Visor Central that if the Visor is left in the USB cradle that there IS battery drain because the USB chip in the Visor needs to stay active whenever it is connected to a USB bus. I can't confirm this one though, and I have no idea on how to disable this.

really!! well, another visor victory

well.... since i dont have the USB cradle, i guess im safe. can anyone else confirm this... i cant believe handspring would fix this blatant issue that palm has continued to ignore! cool. anyways, if anyone else knows about the rechargable hack, and if its possible, let me know! thanks! -Chris
