Prism Owners, Unite!

Over on the PDABuzz website, there's a competition now underway for the best PalmOS PDA. The only PDA on their list that's getting a lower percentage of votes is the M500. That means that by the end of next week, November 16, the Prism will be eliminated from the running.

If you think that the Prism is still the best PalmOS PDA for the money, get over there and cast your vote.

I am somewhat surprised that the Clie 760C is winning by a large margin. While it has tremendously cool specs, my experience with it has been less than perfect:

A) Sony's support sucks, at least for us.

B) The damned thing has almost no upgradability! I can connect to the internet via several methods with the other devices (HandEra 330 can use ethernet cradle, a modified Minstrel III, or a CompactFlash module; Prism can use [prolly] a modified ethernet cradle or a Springboard module). Of the Clies, only the S320 (unless something has changed recently) has a wireless connectivity option, and I don't know how it is with regular internet connceting (I'm not counting analog modems, by the way).

C) The memory expansion is the most expensive of all PDAs. CompactFlash (HandEra) is much cheaper per megabyte, and the Flash adaptors for the Visor family are relatively inexpensive)

Granted, I love the USB Drive feature of the Clie (plug it into the cradle, activate a Palm App, and the Clie suddenly looks like a Memory Stick USB Drive to the connected PC), but the HandEra now offers similar functionality, so it's less of a selling point. The screen and audio out are nice, but I don't know that they're collectively enough to make it unconditionally the best of the bunch.

Of course, I'm still hoping that Handspring will come out with a next generation PDA soon. ^_^

SyncWizard offers same USB drive feature to Visor user. Now you can manage palm and CF card directly from your PC.

Where do you find Syncwizard?

Anyway, I'd be interested to see the same vote happen on a Visor site. As a visor owner, I don't often check out general Palm sites like PDABuzz unless there's something specific I'm looking for or following a link. Try the vote on Visorcentral, or even on PalmGear or Memoware, and there'll be a significantly different result, I suspect.

That's odd. My Prism seems to work just fine. I guess I'll have to turn it in, now that you have clued me into into its obsolesence.

Prism better

They'll have to pry my cold dead fingers off of my Prism. I switched from a Pro a month ago and am blown away by the great color, much better than Palm. The Prism was only $300, a lot less than a Sony, and I can use all of my Springboard modules with it. The screen resolution of the Sony is slightly better, but not $200 better. Check out the user comments on the Clie before you switch.

Well, unless the idea of great color, solid support, and expandability / upgradeability equals obsolesence, I don't know what you're talking about!!!
