-- Datebook+ & Datebk3 - how different? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=537)

Question

For those who have gotten a Visor...

I am currently using a Palm Pro and WILL upgrade. Datebk3 is what I use now. What features are NOT found on Visor's Datebook+ which are found on Datebk3.

In particular -

- Icons???

- Floating Appointments

- catagories

- if needed, can datebk3 be loaded and run on a visor.

You can use DateBook3 on the Visor, but at the cost of ~250k. The missing items, from the little exposure I had to the Visor, was just the icons. Otherwise, everything was left intact.

Question

Icons were most likely dropped because in the standard PalmOS datebook, they show up as a funky string in a Note attached to the appoinments.

I'm curious about categories though: are they in tact? Or were they part of the Note string and therefore discarded?

Chazzz:

I didn't have a chance to check this out as my Visor took what I call a "lucky bounce" and crapped out six days after I got it. You'd have to ask UPS or whoever is responsible for clocking in returned merchandise or someone who has or plans on owning a Visor, since I no longer am a member of either those groups.

Mebbe you can call technical support and ask them, though I doubt they'd have a clue about what you're talking ;-)

I am a former Datebk3 user with my Palm, and now use DateBook+ on my Visor. I haven't found the need yet to have the "full version" of datebk3 since the switch. To address your specific questions:

>-Icons???

No

>- Floating Appointments

Yes

>- catagories

No

>- if needed, can datebk3 be loaded and run on a visor.

Yes

Also gone are events spanning midnight, timezones, and a few other features here and there, e.g. in setting an appt. there is no <duration> button, you must manually enter both beginning and ending times. There are other things I'm sure, but this is all that I currently recall.

There's another difference: The snooze default buttons on the Datebook3 give you the option to snooze 24 hrs after you deal with the alarm. On Datebook+ there is no such button, and the largest increment allowed is 23:55. To do this you have to hit the "Other" button.

This was an important feature lost for me, because with some events I want to be reminded early in advance. I liked being able to throw the alarm one day ahead, each day, until the event happened. That way there would be no way for me to forget about the event. Using "23:55" is an adequate workaround, but it's not as quick.
