-- using empty springboard slot for storage (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10798)

Posted by ThirdMan on 01-11-2001 11:56 PM:

Question

So am I the only poor Visor owner that has not acquired a springboard yet?

It seems a shame to have that nice slot sitting there empty all of the time. I have noticed that it makes a nice little storage compartment... I keep stamps in mine.

Am I the only lunatic doing this, or do I have kindred spirits somewhere out there?

Wink

The smallest post-it notes fit perfectly

Cool Nope, You're Not Alone

I keep a backup CF card in there for my cam or any other covert data storage concealment requirements.

ThirdMan asked: "So am I the only poor Visor owner that has not acquired a springboard yet?"

Nah, I don't, either. Although after going to the Handspring booth at MacWorld Expo this week, I'm contemplating maybe getting a module or two.

I never even considered using the empty space for something else! Is it possible to hurt the pins and bend them or anything? I'd be worried about that.

Airmech and MrSuicide-- I would've NEVER EVER considered stashing a Post-It note pad. Although I do have a few SmartMedia cards for my Olympus D2020... I guess I can stash them there, assuming they fit (they should).

Nope... the plastic 'filler' do-dad is a box; that is, it has a bottom that protects anything from touching the pins.

Ah... it looks like someone else with too much time on their hands has already addressed this issue.

Cool

I keep a condom, a poetry stick, and a quarter for the vibrating motel bed in mine. The reason for this, of course, is that my Visor - especially when clipped to my belt - has this weird ability to turn me from an ordinary geek into a chick magnet geek.

Lightbulb MP3 substitute

Here's one for those of us who can't afford MP3-players:

The World's Smallest FM Radio:
http://www.hometownvariety.com/whol...rsmalfmrad.html
Features Include:
Push-Button Auto Seek FM Tuning.
High Quality Stereo Sound.
Long-Last Battery and
Micro stereo headphones included.
Size - 1 3/8 x 1 x 3/8
Weight - 1 oz.

By my estimation, you'd have to cut a hole in the back of the empty Springboard filler so the radio could bulge a teeny bit out, and drill a small hole in the top for the earphones. Add a slight groove in the top so your cover will still clip on the back, and you have tunes for $12! Smaller, cheaper and easier on batteries than MP3!

soulbarn - remember that there are kids on this board
Intresting though.. I never thought I would do that..
thirdman - Great Idea! cheap is right!

I keep formulas for math in there.

Lightbulb

A folded business card (in half) fits perfectly in the springboard case. Provides an excellent solution to a situation where you lost your visor in some airport...

This thing is tiny!! This proves that a handspring sized radio CAN be built for under $20!! I just can't believe people are halting production on radio modules - when so many of us are dying for something to stick in that slot (nature abhors a vacuum).
