The local Staples FINALLY has Visor's on display. Very prominently, too. They've got a really flashy end-cap with pictures and descriptions of the handhelds and all of the available accessories. Most noticeable in the display picture was the EyeModule Springboard (due to be available through HS this month according to the EyeModule site).

In the glass case were no less than 3 of each model/color combination. They also had serial cradles, cases, deluxe styli, and all the HS Springboards except for the modem. One accessory NOT available retail is the pen stylus, and the USB cradle info stated "Available from handspring.com".

A pretty impressive display, especially considering it was right next to the Palm one. Of course, the "red shirts" still didn't know much about them but were very willing to let me rifle through the case and look at everything (not that the packaging says much of anything).

Oh, pricing was identical to that on the web site.

I was very impressed by the knowledge of the employees at the 2 Staples (Quincy, IL & Columbia, MO). For guys that don't log on to VisorCentral each day, they were pretty well informed. The displays weren't up yet, though, they just had some space in the glass case w/ the Palms, and Visors chained up on the display w/ all the PDA's. I'm interested to see the full HS display.

The employees seem very positive about the Visor. Wait till they use that employee discount and really check them out!

Thumbs down

I am happy that Staples is helping Handspring along - - - at least in your respective cities. Unfortunately, the Staples in my part of the world (East 50's, NYC) has no such end cap or any other means of advertising the wonder that is Visor. In fact, the deluxe unit that they do have on display (Ice)has had a cracked screen for well over a week now. I don't think it has made a very good impression on the customers. The RedShirts aren't exactly up to speed either. Given all that I have read in the related CompUSA threads, it seems to me that Handspring isn't going to have a chance of survival unless they can get these retail companies in line.

Believe it or not, my daughter works at a Staples and their employees do not receive employee discounts. I had visions of a second VDL but not at full price. Only managers get a discount. This is certainly not fair to us parents!!!

I wasn't extremely impressed with the display at the Staples here in Orem, UT--just a Standard and a Deluxe (graphite) on the display with all of the other PDAs. The sales guy seemed pretty positive on the Visors, though; said if people aren't that sure what they want he tries to steer them to the Visors. He also said they keep selling out pretty quickly.

Trapper99,
Your daughter works at staples and didn't tell you that there was an employee appreciation weekend this past weekend? I got a second VDX for $208 with tax!

1. Pricematched anther store for $236.99
2. 10% discount for employee's
3. $10 discount for Being an AT&T Student advantage member
4. $10 for considering changing to SPRINT long distance.

This visor was so cheap, I paid $300 bucks for mine when I ordered it in december with express shipping. My girlfriend paid for it since it was for her, and got a slim leather case for $8 dollars, and the back up module for $24 dollars.

Exclamation

The northern-most Staples in New Hampshire finally has the end-cap Visor display out. it looks pretty nice and certainly displays more "stuff" to go with the Visor than the Palm display has.

I asked the closet red-shirt whether they've sold a lot of them and was told they were flying off the shelves. I asked whether people had been comparing them against the Palm and his response was...

"They're really the same thing. They're made by the same company!"

One more knowledgable employee!

Staples in Charlottesville VA didnt have any Visors on display, they did have 1 Visor and 3 Visor Deluxes, sales associate was clueless about Visors, and I helped another customer standing there decide on a Deluxe. BTW now they are sold out! I guess I was in the day they arrived.

Red face

i went to staples in whestechester county somewhere and there were two visor displays one with modles that didn't work on colourful displays and one with workin visor deluxes in ice blue and graphite. I didn't think they would sell out quickly and i wasn't sure to get the visor or the palmIIIxe so i decided to hold off for now. Can someone convert me please.
