It shouldn't, but the whole point of the backup module is backup. If you leave it in your Visor, and the Visor gets lost/stolen/run over/whatever, you have no way to restore.

I stopped leaving my backup module in for the reasons stated by Toby but (unless I'm plain crazy) I believe that my battery life has increased by a not insignificant margin.

P.S. Is there really such a thing as a simple yes or no question?

It's possible, but I really wonder if it's not that your usage pattern may have changed slightly (e.g. Maybe you backed up more often when it was more convenient because the module was in there all the time).

Yes, I used to back up 2 or 3 times a day (what can I say I'm paranoid!!). Now I back up once per day, in addition to several anal/retentive hot syncs!

Of course, once you pointed out to me that I could lose my precious VDX AND my back up module, I snatched that puppy out as fast as I could...

No. The module only draws power when in use.

Yes, most modules have a small "standby current" that is drawn andtime it is inserted, and draw more current while operating. Many times the module current draw is negligeble while not in use. One experience I use to have withe the eyemodule 1 was that if I left it installed, it would draw very little, but if I neglected to turn OFF the eyemodule application prior to shutting off the visor, it would drain batteries at a higher rate. If you use the module LOTS, leave it in, but exit the application first. It will still have some current draw, but hey it's the price paid for being ready.

An Idea to try to check standby current drain
is to plug in your module, turn the screen brightness all the way up. Hold down the "UP" button on your visor and then touch the battery icon at the top of your screen. A battery voltage window will pop up.

You should get a load number of around 1550Mw with the screen brightness turned all the way up and a load number of 460Mw with the screen brightness turned all the way down. If you see numbers much bigger than it may be sucking on your visor battery. Also, try the above steps without the module plugged in and see what you get. Hope this helps.
