-- Magellan Companion = Crashed Visor (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11704)
Hello everyone, please be for warned that the Magellan Companion for the Visor has frozen my PDA EVERY TIME I have pulled out my unit
. The battery cover was a big pain in the ass. I nearly broke the battery cover trying to get it off
! Finally, the map software has so many error's it's best to just use a paper map like Thomas Bros. You call this a step forward for technology?

Sucks to be you! lol
give the newbie a break
my Magellan gps and mapping software seem to be working great.Do you exit the app before pulling the gps? Could be a bad unit too.
best of luck,
Dan
I'm having no trouble either. I exit any program executed from a module and turn the unit off prior to removing and inserting another module. I don't know if turning of the unit AFTER removing a module is necessary since it always turns on as soon as the module is removed. I've been doing this and my GPS and FlashROM modules are interchanging quite nicely.
The worst it does if you remove it while in the GPS Companion is soft reset the Visor.

Map problems
The mapping problems are typical in this day and age. MarcoSoft, the suppliers of the maps on the Magellan, receive its maps from 3rd party vendors. These maps are usually only updated every few years from aerial photographs. The other interesting problem with maps and the GPS is that occasionally the GPS is correct and the maps are wrong.
I believe they base them on these so called "TIGER" maps released every year from the US Government. I don't know how they map streats, but I do recall one day seeing a man in a van driving slowly around the roads out here that had some sort of "mapping services" sign on the outside, or something like that. My house is in a relatively new subdivision, which isn't on Quo Vadis maps yet.

Software Update
Magellan has released a software update for the Springboard GPS. You can find it here:
http://www.magellangps.com/visordownload/
It seems they have rectified the problem of resetting when the module is pulled, and also an AutoStart for the interface.

koioi
I also have no problems with the Magellan.
Works fine if you exit the application before pulling the module, if you don't you just get a soft reset.
I recently upgraded the software and firmware and now pulling the module doesn't even bother it.
The only crash I got with the new software was when I had a datebook+ alarm pop up while I was in NAV Companion using the GPS.
