Question

I use Palm Desktop for my PIM. I find that is is simple, yet does what I want. However all my coworkers use Outlook. Is there a way for me to import Outlook data into Palm Desktop? I'm especially intersted in the calendar info. Since we all trade calendars with our schedules.

Can anyone help me out?

If there isn't an option to import Outlook into Palm Desktop, and I switch to Outlook and export my Palm Desktop data to Outlook?

Thanks,
Aaron

From the Desktop help file:

quote:

Supported Import and Export File Formats

The Desktop application can import and export information in the formats below.
Many other Microsoft Windows applications can import or export comma delimited, tab delimited values, or text files.

Archive file formats can only be used with the Desktop application. Use the Archive file formats to share information with other handheld users or to create a copy of your important information.

Date Book
Date Book Archive (*.dba)

Address Book
Address Book Archive (*.aba)
Comma Delimited (*.csv, *.txt)
Tab Delimited Values (*.tab, *.tsv, *.txt)
CSV (Lotus Organizer 2.x/97 Mapping)

To Do List
To Do Archive (*.tda)

Memo Pad
Memo Pad Archive (*.mpa)
Comma Delimited (*.csv, *.txt)
Tab Delimited Values (*.tab, *.tsv, *.txt)
Text (*.txt)

Since you're most interested in calendar (DateBook) info, you'll probably need to use the old cut and paste method. Unless there's a 3rd party app out there that converts files to the .dba, .aba, .tda, and .mpa format (I've never looked for one myself).

You're other option would be to use the PoctetMirror software (included on the Visor CD) to sync directly to Outlook instead of the Desktop. Then you could do the importing directly into Outlook and sync it to the Visor.

You should be able to export the Outlook data into a csv file and then import it directly into the Palm Desktop. The only drawback is that you may have to manually set up field mappings.

If you have a Yahoo account, they have facilities to import your exported Outlook csv file and then export it as a dba file. That's the way I did it, but it's 6 of one, half dozen the other.

Cool

I don't think that you'll be able to import the Outlook stuff into the Palm desktop except by either cut and paste or csv file.

However, if you decide to start using Outlook, then you'll be able to import all of your stuff from your Visor by first configuring the Hotsynch manager to use Outlook and then doing a hotsynch. That will bring all of your current info from the Visor to Outlook. Don't forget to synch with the Palm desktop first.

Hope this helps.
