-- Has anyone used pdalostorstolen.com? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14785)
I am thinking of signing on with pdalostorstolen.com. I have three little boys at home, and am scared to death what could happen to my Prism if it isn't guarded well! The rates seem pretty good ($4.95/month) as do the benefits (replacement with $35 deductible).
Has anyone used them? Would you recommend them to others?

This isn't meant to flame you specifically. There's just been a lot of people double-posting to forums lately, and you just happened to be the latest one to do it.
There is not need to double-post to different forums at Visor Central. Most people use the NEW THREADS feature and they see all new threads, regardless of the topic it was posted in.
Also, when you double post, you end up splitting the replies, which adds to the confusion of the whole thing.
And you also get people like us who end up talking about how pointless it is to double post instead of answering your question.

SOrry folks!
Geez! Sorry folks! I didn't even think about the "show new posts" thing. And I even do the same thing. Oh well, just chalk it up to a Monday morning thing!

In general you should only get insurance for things you
can't afford to replace from your checking account.
Otherwise you're giving needless profit to the insurance
company. Only exception is if you're extremely risk
averse to the point where you can't sleep at night without
the insurance. Then, sure pay for it.
Also, I'm not clear on how your young children are
connected with your PDA being stolen. I would see a
connection between them and it being smashed, used
as a hockey puck, etc., but stolen? Are they suddenly
going to go into business with the local fence???

Visor insurance
Hello,
I recently signed up for one very simple reason. I always have $35.00 available to me. I rarely keep $250+ available for impulse purchases. I own a visor deluxe and it holds my life. About a month ago, I dropped it. It dropped a couple of feet and landed on the corner. Right after I dropped it I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I realized at that point, if I had truly broken it, the budget didn't allow for a replacement for a month or so. After a reset it did start working again. That evening I signed up for the insurance. The process was very simple and quick. They also covers almost any type of damage from the dog eating the PDA to an excited 3 year-old.
I haven't had to put in a claim, but on the taking my money part, they have been great!

I, too, signed up for the service 2 months ago for peace of mind. I have a VPL and Minstrel S and I carry them w/ me most places that I go, thus having them insured makes sense.
I have not put in a claim yet. I also have a Backup Module, Backup Buddy for extra comfort.

No, No, No!
If you trash your Prism you can send it back for a replacement unit. Basically the worst that could happen would be that you would crack the screen, or maybe the case. In both cases Handspring will send you a refurbed unit at cost (they replaced my VDX unit because I broke the screen and it cost me $85). You can replace the screen yourself for about $85 on a Prism; there are several suppliers of replacement screens available if you do a query.
When I broke my screen I had a new unit the very next day. I dealt only with Handspring. I suspect that securing a new unit via an insurance company could be a lengthier process. I would have been burned up if I had had to shell out another $200, but at "only" $85 I gave myself only a slap on the wrist for my carelessness.
Keefer,
I imagine that pdalostorstolen.com acts as most insurance companies. You submit a claim, and they cut you a check for the cost of the unit once the claim has been processed. Then I can go to the store and buy a NEW Prism, not receive a refurbished one for $85. I have had enough headaches with other companies sending me refurbished products that often are in just as bad of shape as the units they are replacing that the concept to me is ridiculous.

Rehab Rehash
I've seen three refurb VDX units...all looked and functioned as good as new. I am not saying that there isn't a headache out there to be found, but based on my experience with Handspring the refurb units have all been in good-as-new condition. I'll do it again if I have to. In fact, if I could pick up a refurbed Prism or Edge I'd jump in a second.
