Does anyone know if it is possible to surf the internet when it's in the cradle? I don't want to spend $130 on a modem when I already have one for my computer...I have read How To's on how this is done with a Pocket PC, but I haven't read anything about this on a Visor.

If anyone knows how, please let me know

Thumbs up

You can use LinkUSB at PalmGear..

LinkUSB is derived from LinkDirect by [email protected] (see http://www.vmlinuz.org/palmos/) For Handspring Visors, it provides a PPP connection via USB, given a proper PPP daemon on the other end. A script for use with Linux as well as full source code is included.

That'll do what your looking for :-)

Question

Can anyone tell my why one would like to surf from the visor while connected to the PC? I can definately understand why one would want to surf while AWAY from the PC.

You took the words out of my mouth...
Why on earth would you like to surf on a smal monochrome screen while you have a big color screen right next to it...

i think he wanted to use the modem that he had for his computer (well I hope that's what he meant) Of course he would need a usb modem to use linkusb (obviously) I don't think anyone has successfully gotten the serial cradle and a serial modem to work together. if i'm mistaken please chime in.

For what it's worth, MochaSoft also makes a PPP daemon for Windows, Mocha W32 PPP (http://www.mochasoft.dk/palm.html#palmppp). However, it does not work with the Visor's USB (so you better have a serial cradle!). Although they acknowledcge the USB Visor, they don't say if or when they'll support it.

Two reasons I can think of.

Once you surfed to those pages, they would be in your cache, for offline viewing. Yeah, you can do this with Avantgo, et.al., but that's kind of laborious for one time visits,

Secondly, if you use a PPP connection with an IMAP server, you can keep all your mailboxes in sync, not just your inbox.
