Any way to project Visor Screen for presentation?

Hi all,

I'm doing a presentation on mobile computing and I was wondering if there was a way for me to project the contents of my screen onto the wall so that I can project the image to everyone.

Is this possible? or do I have to result to taking pictures of my visor and using good ol ppt?

or you could put your visor(so long as its a b+w one. not the rpism) on an overhead projector, and shine a very bringt light on the screen... that should work...

The Presenter To Go works quite well for what you want. If you'd like a less expensive alternative you could do screen captures and crank it out in Powerpoint. But I have the Margi module and it worked like a charm for my presentation on mobile computing.

well buying that margi isn't an option on a college student budget! so I guess I"ll have to take screen caps.

Keep an eye on eBay. Presenter-to-Go modules appear occasionally. I bought mine off of eBay for half the price. It appears that the guy I bought mine from gets the modules whose boxes have been damaged. Since there is so much extra packaging, even though the box was heavily damaged, the module, CD, and instructions were fine. I have seen him list Presenter-to-Go modules since, sometimes with no bids.

Actually another option is available. If you can borrow a Video camera and a projector that takes Video inputs (RCS or S) you can ZOOM up on the screen and project it via the Video in ports on the projector. Many presentation rooms also have a panel that has a "document" camera that will allow you so do the same.

I have done a presentation of a Palm Program using the doc camera of a toshiba TLP-711 that I have at work and it went great.

Back when I was in High School (some 20 odd years ago), there was a device called an opaque projector. It basically worked by shinning a very bright light onto the object (usually paper or a book) and then using mirrors and lenses project the image of the object onto the screen. If such a device still exists, I would think it should work on any monochrome visor, unless the visor gets too hot. LCDs turn black when they get too hot.

Another idea, instead of trying to project your Visor, emulate the Visor using the Palm OS Emulator running on a laptop connected to a computer projector.

Another device (this is what they use at trade shows) is a little camera that just is on a little strecthy thing so you can postition it, above a flat surface. it's an advanced form of an opaque projector, not requiring a direct thing to the screen...

Thanks for the tips! I think i'm still going to do screen caps, because it's the fastest solution and we don't have an opaque projector

You can also use the PalmOS Emulator

I find using the PalmOS Emulator really handy for presentations. Incase you are unfamiliar with it, it is a program that you can install on your PC (Laptop/Desktop/Mac) that will allow you to emulate the handheld of your choice.

If you have a serial cradle, you can dump the ROM image of your current device to a file that the emulator can run. You can also sign up as a PalmOS developer to get ROM images for other devices, including devices you may not own (like the TREO) but you will need to sign an agreement for legal reasons. You can also download Skins which make the emulator look like the handheld you are emulating, a cool experience for a presentation!

You can install programs into the emulated handheld as well as HotSync. It's really pretty powerful and since you'll likely use PowerPoint for your presentation, what can be easier than having everything on a single machine? Nothing more to buy either, the Emulator is free.

PS. I like to use it for testing applications that I download to see if they are worth installing to my Prism. I also write software too, on occassion, so of course that's what first led me to the Emulator.

My little girl is 3. She can already navigate my VisorPrism and knows where to tap! She has mastered TealPaint (including changing colors, tools, etc.), not to mention several games. In the Avatar, she is playing some tunes on the SoundsGood MP3 player. It's amazing how fast kids can learn if you give them a chance. Now if I could just keep her from making those long distance calls on my VisorPhone...
