-- What to get with a Visor Platinum? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9413)
I currently have a Visor Platinum, and I am a Freshmen in High School. I want to know what kind of things are essential or beneficial to me that I should get in the catagories of:
1. Software for school use and to spiff up my Visor
2. Protection for the Visor / a case
3. Any Springboard Modules
4. Games for those boring classes and while waiting for my mom
5. Anything thing else useful to a High School Student / new PDA user
I'm a little short on cash, so anything that saves money helps. Also I use a Apple PowerMac G4, which may effect my choices in the catagories above. Thanks.
A great game is Race Fever.
If you plan to take a lot of notes in class or write papers in study hall, you'll want a keyboard (GoType or StowAway) someday, but either one is at least $70.

I'd definitely get a stowaway keyboard, I use mine at school all the time and it's always neat to see the expression on someones face when you unfold a full size keyboard. I'd also get a modem if you go to friends houses alot it's easier to check your email if you have a pop3 account, especially if they don't have the internet. Check out silverscreen to make your interface look alot cooler.

Sports Case / 8 MB module / Software
I recently bought a Visor Platinum. I chose the Handspring Sports case:
http://www.handspring.com/products/...jhtml?CATID=638
It works quite well, however the screen is not quite as well protected with this case as it is with the plastic cover (the case has thick padding protecting the screen, but it's still flexible).
That said, it offers good enough protection that I'm not worried about it (and I don't need to use the Visor's annoying plastic cover anymore). I'm very happy with it. I bought it at Amazon.com using a $10 off $30 coupon (I added a cheap DVD to push the price above $30).
I also bought an 8MB module. I really like it so far... the built in file mover app is easy to use and running apps off the module is not a problem in *most* cases (there are many other threads listing what is or is not compatible). I also use it for back-ups. It's not as quick and easy as the backup module, but how often do you plan on having to restore? I did a test hard reset and had no problems restoring everything.
My only complaint is that it'd be nice to be able to save back-up "scripts" to only backup modified files since the last backup (like Backup-Buddy).
I bought it at Staples.com for $55 (using a $25 off $75 coupon).
See http://www.slickdeals.net for coupons.
See http://www.palmgear.com for software. I recommend Hi-Note, StarPilot, Planetarium, PocketC, cbaspad, CASLrt, Backup Buddy, RPN, Quicksheet, Mathpad, Hackmaster, Glowhack, Hearts, PocketChess 1.0 (free), Chessgenius ($25), Reversi, HMaki, Avantgo, Infoview, Isilo, Tealinfo, Cspotrun, CVT, Launchpad, Vexed, Cribbage, Tealdoc, Z'Catalog, Mulg (there are problems running Mulg on the Platinum... I've contacted the author about it) and Readthis.
Thanks for the replies. For a case, I was thinking a Rhodiana case, although they are a bit expensive, but I think its worth it to protect a $300 investment, any objections? Thanks for the software, anyone know of any good school assignment tracking kind of software? Any other games that are preferrably free out there that are worth the download? I believe I will think about an investment in a keyboard, if I can raise the money, although wouldnt I need to buy some Word processing software? Thanks.

if you have the platinum, please DONT USE THE PLASTIC COVER!!! i did for a while and it makes some marks where it rubs the paint off.
on another note, i want a stowaway too. it would be great to see the other peoples faces. a great place for games and such, is http://www.palmgear.com it has a good education section. the big problem i have with it, is that it uses credit cards, and as a highschooler too, i dont have one
. i dont like my parents gettin invoved in anything computer related.

there have been other threads about best student software, and I seem to remember four.11 being the best rated for school assignment tracking. If you get the goType keyboard it comes with word processing software, but I've fallen in love with the new DocumentsToGo pro. Lets you upload MS Word and Excell documents and EDIT them on the visor, then when you synce up it updates the file on your PC. Very handy.
