Angry Limited Retail Outlets

I don't know what the heck is going on but it looks as though Handspring is getting phased out in many retail stores. The most recent store that appears to be phasing out Handspring is the mammoth electronics ratailer Best Buy. If you log onto their website you will notice that they are not featuring any Handspring models in the PDA section. While they do have some modules in the accessories section, they are very few. Does anyone know what is going on? To begin with, Circuit City, Which I was previously very loyal to, did not carry Handspring products, then Office Depot clearanced all their Handspring merchandise, and now it appears that the same is about to happen at Best Buy. I know that the Sony Clie' is extremely popular but come on. The Best Buy employees seem to know nothing of this, as a matter of fact they were shocked because the Handspring units have always been hard to keep stocked. I just can't believe this is happening, I'm on the verge of total panic to be honest. I have invested too much in handspring modules to have no way to return my unit if something happens to it, only to get a different Palm OS model in exchange- what good is my store backed extended service plan? Anyway, can anyone please shed some light on what is going on?

That's not exactly news. In my experience Best Buy employees often know nothing about product that's directly in front of them. One that I spoke with when initially researching PDA's showed me a fancy $300 leather PDA case and claimed it was the one that came with the Visor Deluxe.

As far as stuff going away, I have two Wal-Marts within reasonable distance to me. One has a sparkling selection of Visor stuff, and no other PDA's. The other doesn't have anything PDA related -- not even stylii -- and would probably run screaming into the night if faced with any.
The one Target has a couple Visors and Palms tucked away in the electronics section, next to a couple of protable DVD players, and the Staples I go to (there are two in my area; the one I don't go to, which is actually closer, is the absolute worst retail establishment I have ever entered in my entire existance and which I could rant about for hours upon end until I expired from the venom) has a wide selection of several models, as well as boxed software, cases, attachments, etc. They like PDA's so much I wouldn't be surprised if they started giving them away if you spent a certain amout of money, just so they could have more in the store.

Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, three additional Wal-Marts, two Staples, the only Office Depot I know of and another Target are all outside my current ability (time, distance, reason to go) to visit, so can't comment on those.

The HandSpring Devices have not been on the BestBuy site in a very long time, if they ever were.

To my knowledge, they are not getting rid of the of the Neo, Pro, and Edge. I was just in BestBuy over the weekend and the prices were not designated as a discontinued item.
