Question

I heard some negative stuff about the backup module a while back and was just wondering if anyone wants to share their opinion about it?

Power corrupts, absolute power is really kinda neat.

I'll have a review of it up on Palmpower.com tomorrow, along with a review of Tiger Woods and the Flash 8Mb.

Well, my unofficial opinion is that it is pretty good, especially for the price.

The first time I plugged it in, my Visor power was off. As soon as the module locked in, the Visor powered on and launched the 'Backup' application. There is a big button in the middle of the screen to start a backup, and a smaller one in the lower left-hand corner to do a restore. One push of the button, and I was backed up.

Transfer rate seems to be consistant with the published reports of 1MB per minute. Maybe if I wore a watch, I could be more accurate.

I tried several different situations: installing the card, removing the card, power on, power off, etc. It seems that either installation or removal of the card will cause the Visor to power on. The application button for the Backup program was added or removed from the launching menu as appropriate.

The only problem I experienced was when I was removing the card with the Visor power off. The first time I tried it, the power came on, and the Visor went into this....well.....the best way I can describe it is 'spastic form re-draw'. It sat there re-drawing the screen and beeping at me. I had to do a soft reset to clear it, after which it worked fine. I found that the problem was that I was using Launcher III v1.4. I upgraded to Launcher III v1.51 and the problem disappeared, and everything has worked fine since.

The only comments I heard from my friends when I showed them was, "I want my PC to work like that!"
