-- Softmodem vs innogear cell-phone connector (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5297)

Question

I wonder if any of you have tested the SoftModem available at PalmGear. http://www.palmgear.com/software/sh...amp;prodID=6703

There is very little documentation available but reviews suggest that you can connect to the web using the software if you have a cell phone. For those of you who have tried it, how do you think it will compare to Innogear's cell phone connector, which I think is a physical wire connector? Softmodem uses the IR link so it appears to be much more flexible. Connect speeds may be another matter but I have heard people get upto 91 kbps.

Any comments?

I am a bit skeptical. Only a handful of cell phones on the market has the data modem function built-in(those AT commands interface) and I don't believe that this software has implemented the 'modem' function in software(that is very tough if possible, even the latest PC needs a raiser card for it and still use lots of CPU resources)
