What I want is a Hi-res color Visor Treo with an extra slot for cf memory. Doesn't that just make logical sense??? I'd pay a good chunk of $$ for it too. I think it doesn't make any sense to have memory expandable via the springboard slot. Look at your computers that you're on right now, there's dedicated slots for memory and separate connectors for peripherals. they should NOT be combined. Can anybody enlighten me as to why a dedicated memory slot was never incorporated into any of the HS's ?
Second thought. Memory limitations on the Visors suck. So we need either a dedicated CF memory slot -OR- wireless connectivity so that we can easily and instantly backup everything we have (either with our own servers or some hosting service) and then clear out what little memory they gave us to play with.

Ah, but look at a PC from the late 1980's (five years or so since the basic PC-AT architecture was established). It doesn't have dedicated slots for memory. You had room for 1MB on the motherboard. If you wanted more than that you plugged a (typically huge) expanded memory card into one of your ISA bus slots. Your hard disk (which is really what a CF card is) didn't have a dedicated slot either. It hooked up to a card plugged into an ISA slot. Yes, you had multiple ISA slots, but in a very big box.

Why no dedicated slots? Partly because clear usage patterns for that hardware still hadn't fully emerged. Hardware designers didn't incorporate dedicated memory slots because they weren't yet convinced that everyone would want such a capability (or at least be willing to pay the extra for it).

Same reason. The people in charge of HS aren't convinced that the masses want such capabilities enough to justify the extra cost/size/weight. Read an interview with Hawkins - he doesn't see the Visor as a laptop replacement. He sees it as an electronic organizer (now with wireless communication capabilities). You're also supposed to sync it with your desktop periodically to get rid of all your old data. When you view it that way, you don't need a ton of extra memory - 16MB should be more than enough. Now, I totally disagree with that view (and that's why I designed a CF adapter) - but I'm not making decisions for HS

Dedicated CF in addition to the Springboard? How big a device are you looking to carry?! I'm a huge fan of CF. It's fast, cheap, and reliable ... but it's also big and battery hungry compared to all the other options. A device big enough for CF plus Springboard plus a battery big enough to power it all would be big and heavy. SD plus Springboard I could see happening (much like HandEra did SD plus CF) but not CF plus Springboard.
