-- Prism battery discharge...should it be done? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13421)

Question

I was wondering if you should allow your Prisms batteries to drain fully before you recharge them?

Do the batteries in the Prism suffer from the memory effect like most rechargeable batteries do?

Is there a program that will discharge the Prisms battery for you?

Nope. The battery can be racharged at any point w/o any memory effect. The memory effect only happens with NiCad's (as far as I know). The prism (edge, too) uses a li-ion battery.

Arrow General Rule fo Thumb

Li-Ion Batteries liked to be recharged at about 10% battery level. If you keep draining the battery before you charge it, then the life of the battery will diminish.

I wondered about this too.

Yet, with my cell phone's li-ion battery, I constantly topped off. And one day I found the max charge it would take was about an hour. I wonder if li-ion's are really immune to topping off/memory effects?

you might find this website interesting. I know it says it is for Photography but the batteries technology is the same. I got this off of comp.sys.palmtops.pilot user group.
