PS2 or Xbox
What is your preference, PS2 or Xbox?
I like racing and fighting games and am not particularly interested in RPG or sports games...
Also, can either do progressive scan dvd movies?
Don't know about ps2, but xbox can't do progressive scan for DVD. However, it does support HDTV.
xbox also has a many online driving games, and a few fighting games. In a couple months DOA online will be out. Yea! The DOA girls online in hi-def!

i chose xbox over ps2..generally the games have better graphics and seem to run smoother on the xbox. Besides, unfortunately it seems microsoft is intent on taking over the gaming world too ad may be around longer...certainly the big ganes developers seem to be doing their xbox versions first, with the odd exception of course.
I will give you my .02
1. If progressive scan dvd quality is important, spend the 70 or 80 bucks and get a dedicated player, they will blow away both PS2 or XBX in DVD playback.

It really gets down to the games you want to play and is 5.1 audio a big deal.
I play the xbx on a 106" screen with a 5.1 setup.
I also have the xbx moded so I can play vid files, such as tv shows I missed and slide shows of my kid's digital pics.....
Good Luck

Xbox modded all the way. When my friends watched once upon a time in mexico before it was released on dvd and it blew them away.
I prefer PS2 because of the games.. but the gap is closing quickly..
Also I dont like the Xbox controllers..

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
X-box has better graphics, but most games are designed for PS2 first, which makes it control better on PS2.

Games that are written for multiple platforms are written to middleware, something like Java. Therefore, the play experience will be dumbed down for the least powerful system, PS2.
Games that are written specifically for xbox, such as Splinter Cell, Deus Ex, and Ninja Gaiden, will never come out for PS2. Or if they do, they will come out later with worse graphics and worse gameplay. e.g. the PS2 has less usable RAM, so less things can be displayed on the screen or less options are available.
There are some games exclusive for one game system or the other, but sooner or later, that games, or something similar to it, will be available for either platform.
And don't forget: Xbox Live!

Just pick the system with the exclusive games you want to play. Nintendo for Nintendo games, PS2 for PS2 games, etc.

XBOX RULES!!
Passionate, sorry.
Ps2 is second rate and gamecube is a toy.
Besides there's nothing that compares to Xbox Live!
Woof

Ya the specs are pretty close, OVER 2 YEARS AFTER the Xbox was released. Nice job of catch up Sony. Bah!
You can BUY a hard drive for the PS2... at least it's supposed to be available now or coming soon. It's included with the Xbox.
You can BUY a network card for the PS2. Included with the Xbox.
Many more games for PS2, a lrage portion of which are crap. A good many of the Xbox games are crap too, but the good ones blow away anything PS2 has to offer.
Xbox Live. Is there anything close to that even rumored for PS2?
No Contest.

Dont forget that PS2 is cheaper (at least here it is)
And in Xbox2 they are thinking of taking out the HD...
So the after market HD is not such a crazy idea..
Btw does the Xbox have the webcam games?
Now that is a great idea.. kids can play computer games yet they still get exersize!
As for games I think it is personal taste..
Xbox live on PS2? I assume you can do simular things with the network card.. that would be the point wouldnt it?
As for who's playing catch up, the PS2 was out a long time before Xbox.. so you could claim Xbox is playing catch up too..
No surprize the latecommer would have some more modern technology... a 2003 toyota is way more advanced than a T-ford.. yet the T-ford was there first.. so is a 2004 Ford catching up to the toyota or is toyota catching up to ford? or is it an eternal process of catching up to eacht other and driving technology..
I like to think the lather..
