-- Will Prism's battery have a memory problem? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8817)

Posted by markbidwell on 10-20-2000 08:27 PM:

Does anybody know if Prism's battery will have a memory problem?

Also, is the battery replaceable?

If it does have a memory problem and the battery is not replaceable, would this mean a Prism unit could have a very short life?

What do people think? My only experience is with laptop batteries that have developed memories very quickly and have had to be replaced.

Thanks,

Lithium Ion batteries have no memory effect -- however, they have a fixed lifespan.

The battery is replacable (based on photos I've seen of an opened up Prism). I would imagine Handspring would ask you to send your unit back.

For what it's worth, between March 1999 and now, my Palm V exhibits no memory effect, and continues to charge normally. I think people are being overly concerned about the rechargable battery.

Lithium Ion do have memory

Saying that Lithium ion batteries do not have a memory effect is not completely true. Its just that lithium ion batteries do not have that great of a memory effect. It has been my experience (I have been using Lithium ion batteries in cellphone for a long time now) that after a year of use (draining halfway and then recharging) you will start to notice a very slight memory effect. While its probably not anything to worry about, to get the most out of your battery, drain it down every once in a while.
