I'm not sure how many will agree with me, but "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is one of my favorites so far this year. Homer's "Odyssey" done as a comedy set in Depression-era Mississippi with a bluegrass soundtrack... what's not to like?

Love the soundtrack to this movie too -- if you like bluegrass (which may be a very big IF on this site ) then you should go get the CD if nothing else.

You're right! Movie was great, soundtrack is great. But I think it came out last year?

Memento was a fantastic movie. I hope that it gets nominated for a few Oscars. Nice to have an original movie for once.

I'm looking forward to LOTR. However, if it sucks, I will hunt down and ritually kill everyone involved with the movie. You DON'T mess around with Tolkien!

Kiss of the Dragon was good. I would not classify it as the best of the year, well, it's not Oscar material at least, but out of the 4 movies that I just saw this weekend (Memento, KOTD, Final Fantasy and AI) I liked it 2nd best, Memento was 1st. I thought that KOTD had good acting in it and that the action was not so overboard as most action movies.

Basic plot...

Leonard's (Guy Pierce) wife is raped and murdered and in the attack he is given a blow that leaves him with a rare condition know as Anteriograde amnesia. It prevents him from forming new memories. Even with this handicap he is on the hunt to find his wife's killer. To deal with his "condition" (as he calls it) he devises a system of post-it notes, Polariod pictures and tattoos to help him "remember" important facts.

Standard detective story until you take into account the delivery method. The movie is shown backwards. Meaning that the very first thing you see is the end of the story. The rest of the movie is fed to you in small doses of about 5-10 minutes each with the beginning of the current segment starting where the "end" of the previous segment left off.

I highly recommend it and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

I also agree that this is a bland year for movies.

Of the crop that came out, I'd have to say the better ones were Shrek, Memento and Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

I'm looking forward to Planet of the Apes. Tim Burton is always fun to watch.

Made looks interesting, but doubt that it will live up to Swingers.

Final Fantasy looks interesting too, perhaps more from a production standpoint than anything...

And, of course, Monsters, Inc. should be a fun one...

Now that I have seen Final Fantasy I can comment on how "Freakin Awesome" it was .

The story was a bit strange (in a good way), but the animation is simply amazing. We aren't far away from having completely fake actors.

Really? I thought it was a good summer movie. Then again, I wasn't expecting a whole lot other than an interesting action movie. Burton is not really a 'deep' director. He seems to excel at the glossiness of production and that seems to suit him just fine.

The 'moral undertones' were a little sappy and over-played, but the story was interesting and I'll admit that the ending(s) where a bit unexpected...something rare for a summer action flick. And it CLEARLY set up a sequel, but I thought it was done well...in that they were being obvious about it and not necessarily trying to wrap it up with 'and they all lived happily ever after' ending.

The one thing I couldn't figure out, though, is where did all of the horses come from?

It's weird, I'm not really a "movie" critic, I usually just want to be entertained by a movie. I'd heard so much about the original movie though, and I know that Burton is a great director. I guess I was expecting more from it than it had to offer. I personally thought the ending was kind of lame.

I liked Score a lot. Great score (music and loot) and fun to watch the ensemble of actors. I am not a computer geek type. I thought the hacker scenes and the whole computerization of robbery interesting. Did those of you who saw it think that part of the movie was well done? My husband didn't like the movie much, and I wonder if the computer part was too low level for the computer savy.
