Consumer Reports does it again!

Consumer Reports again rated PDAs and I gotta say, I really don't know whether to believe them anymore. The most notible thing that I don't agree with is that the Clie PEG-N710C got a "good" rating for display. For anyone not familiar with CR, things are rated from poor to excellent, good in the middle. Other models that got "good" on display: m500, m505, Edge, Platinum, Prism, m100, and m505. When I saw the Clie, I was amazed my its display.

Anyway, Visors scored fairly well, Edge in 3rd place in the "All-around organizers" catigory, behind the Smartphone and m105. Next, in 4th is the Platinum, then, in 7th, the Prism. The rest were not rated.

This is their 3rd PDA rating this year. You'd think they'd get it right after a while.

so, they're not right because their opinion isn't the same as yours?

Though I haven't read it for a coupla months (I usually check it out at the library, but I've been busy; tho, a quick check shows that the current issue also looks at Internet providers, so I guess I gotta hie me to the library), CR usually explains their criteria for how things are rated. While I may not agree wiuth some of their estimations, they're usually a conglom of opinions and conditions, averaged to get the rating.

When you saw the Clie, was it under flourescent lighting or some other more real-world conditions?

I was suprised to see that the Sony Clie N710C and Visor Edge fall under "all-around organizer", but the m500 and m505 fall under "computer stand-in." The rest of the devices in the "computer stand-in" category were PocketPCs except for the bottom rated Diamond Mako/Psion Revo twins. As I understand it, all PalmOS devices are intended to be organizers, and not mini-computers. If any PalmOS organizer is considered a "computer stand-in," I would think it would be the Sony Clie N710C. Also the m500 and Edge seem very similar to me, so I would expect them to be in the same category. I wonder what their criteria are for deciding a device's category.
