Visor Deluxe dead-- which model to replace?
I was one of the first VDX buyers: October 99.
My 3-yr old Visor Deluxe has a broken screen (no idea how it happened). From recent experience (w/my teenage son), I know Handspring will "replace" the screen (i.e. swap the machine) for $100 or so. Of course, that's about the price of a new Neo or Pro (whichever replaced the Deluxe)
I don't want to spend $300 or so for a pda. I found that I use just pretty basic PDA programs (datebk, address, memo, wordsmith, some games, airplane flight schedules, etc). What do you all recommend in the $100-$200 range? in the $200+ range?
I haven't really used any Springboards-- they look cool, but none are "essential". I bought a modem (on sale for $30, but never really used it, since I need more sophisticated corporate email, ie. my laptop). My son has a targus handcam digital camera springboard on his Platinum- again, cool, but not necessary.
I probably want to stay with Palm, not PocketPC (Micro$oft needs competition).
Thanks for your ideas.
Steve
You didn't say if you have any springboards you want to keep. If you do, definately get a Neo or Pro. If not, there are probably cheap Palm brand ones, but I'm not familiar with them.

I think the next logical step would be to get the edge. It does all the things a VDX does but better. The flip cover is great, the size is great(since you don't use spring boards too much), and you still retain the springboard compatibility.
and it falls in your pricerange,(the upper part thought).
If you thought your VDX was convienent before, the edge will open new doors!

Get a Visor Neo from best buy.
They have them on sale until sunday for $169, plus a $75 Best Buy Gift Card, which lowers the price to under $100 - not a bad buy at all.

I replaced my old Visor 2MB (Dec 1999, which is still in use by my 10-yr old) with a blue Edge in January of this year. I also did not have any springboards and mostly used the basic programs, maps, ebooks, etc. I am very pleased with the Edge. Since it requires no case, it is extremely easy to keep it with you where ever you may go. Check into one and compare it with your lifestyle and what your needs are.
what about the Kyocera 6035?
someone in my office suggested the Kyocera 6035. $99 at CompUSA, or free from Sprint (w a 2-yr contract).
Bigger than a PDA, to be sure, but it means I can leave my cell phone at home, and only carry 1 device.
Looks pretty good. What do you think?
Thanks
The kyrocera is HUGE and quite ugly IMHO. I could never use it...
