Question

With about a week (or so) before the M5xx series starts to trickle out, I am contemplating buying a new pda. I have looked the Edge over at a local CompUSA Store and although impressed a bit with it I'm still holding out to look at the M500.

My Questions about the Edge include:
1) How do you adjust the brightness? Couldn't figure it out in the short time I looked at it.

2) How Does the Memory module work? Can you fill up your memory on the Edge or do you have to leave plenty of "open" space for what ever you take from the module?

3) Will the Edge OS be updated soon? I read somewhere that only Datebook uses the silent alarm feature.

4) How annoying is that stylus being on the side. That was deffinatly a negative with me.

5) I really liked the screen on the Edge, anyone know how the M500 will compare??

Any help would be appretiated.

You can't. It's a monochrome screen, so there is no brightness adjustment. There is, however, a backlight you can turn on and off by holding down the power button, and a way to adjust the contrast (by tapping on a small section of the silkscreen near the menu button area)

You can pretty much fill it up. Apps run right off the memory module, without needing to be copied to the handheld's main memory.

No.

Forty-two.

Backlight cannot be adjusted, contrast can be adjusted as mentioned above (very lower left of the screen same as vdx/vpl)

Awesome. It must be a personal preference. Don't get it if you don't like it. I finally don't have to worry about my stylus getting lost.

The m500 won't hold a candle to the edge. It will warp with the slightest pressure, the plastic overlay will melt in tempuratures over 80F, it's only 80 x 80 resolution, it's not going to be covered by Palm's warranty, and if you press it at the wrong angle the whole device blows up.

In other words, I don't know.
