88/89 4cyl 2.3l 5spd mustang.

oh, of course i wish i could have the V8 5.0l version, but i couldn't afford the gas, much less the car.

I want this car because I love to fiddle and tweak my things(my VDX has had white leds and bigger speakers installed). It's a 4cyl, so the gas will be cheap, its a common american car that was pretty much the same for 10 straight years, so the parts are cheap and plentiful.

I am working my butt off to sqeeze toegethr enough cash for one of these+insurance by the end of summer.

on with the piccies:

dark red would be best, but ill settle for anything other than beige. why do people buy beige sportscars anyways?

I don't like the look of the 80s/90s/00s mustangs either...

Drove a rental mustang once and was pretty dissepointed about the handling and performance of it...

If you get a mustang get a V8 Convertible otherwise it is a waste of money IMHO...

But then again I never understood any post 1970's american car...

I had an 83 2.3L with T-tops. Loved the car in the summer. Hated it in the winter. It had the usual problems a rear wheel drive car had in the snow, only amplified due to it's light weight & short wheelbase. Gas mileage was ok for the time, but not much better than the V6's.

Be forewarned that at least some of the 2.3L Mustangs required special thermostats that ran about $8 US at the time. That wouldn't be bad, except for the fact that I ended up putting one in it every year (usually in the middle of the worst weather in February) when it went bad.

What are you buying the car for? Not that I'd ever steer someone away from a Mustang (I fell in love with them the first time I saw a 69 Boss 302), but there may be better alternatives, depending on what you need the car for.

Tsk Tsk...if I were anyone...I'd completely void North American cars in general....go for a VW or a Mercedes or a BMW or a Volvo..even the asian cars (except Kia) are better....

On a different note, your tweaked VDx has peaked my interest...what exactly have you done?

IE yes, on a Mac, but I have plugins for BMP's among other things. I did note that I only had oine of three possible BMP formats enabled, so I added in the other tow, and now animated gif's (such as my avatar and Toolkit's) no longer work, on this page only, so I'm blaming you for that.

I put in an internal talelight. (just get a 3.5v led of the colro you choose and attatch the anode of it to the serial TX pin, and the cathode to the GND pin of your hotsync conector. I used white. I took the led out while i was doing some other experiments that involved the serial pins and I suspected that the led was drawing too much current. I'd like to put it back in, but every time you dissasemble one of these things, you wipe i'ts memory. and my backupbuddy demo has expired.

I alo attached a headphone jack in the springboard cover. it was wired to the inernal speaker so that you could actual;ly hear and understand the voice tracks of tealmovies. I took that out because I got a soundsgood. though I'm toying with the idea of somehow rigging the visors internal speaker to the soundsgod somehow...

So you guys are down on my mustand fetish, eh? well, to be honest, I'm open to suggestions. I chose the mustang because they are fairly reliable, and easy to find parts for, as well as being kinda sporty. But also primarily because i can find one from my target price of 1500can.

I mean, sure, I could buy a K-car for half that and it would have the same size moter and be extremely wll supported, but.... its a very ugly car.

So then. what car would you all suggest, given my criteria?

Thorin, if you like the 'Stang, go for it. It's not a life-long commitment - if it doesn't work out, sell it and buy something else

The 4cyl Mustangs are inexpensive and much easier to work on than most FWD cars. They're also dog slow, but that will be a big help in keeping your insurance rates down.

Why do young people always want environmentally unfriendly cars? I will get excited about sports cars when they design them to use hydrogen or water.

My parents bought a Toyota Prius and I think I may have to invest in one of those when I get a car...I mean a hybrid for 30,000...and the lease isn't that bad. You also get rebates and tax refunds in Canada for buying such an environmentally friendly car. Oh and Toyota is working on a Hybrid sports car. Instead of having one engine, it will have four electric motors, one for each wheel that will pump out about 800 horsepower..all with an average of about 60mpg and giving out up to 90% less CO than standard cars.

I like the Hybrids too, only problem is when I go Diving or Golfing, the cargo space on those cars is too small

there you go, i've got a seldom used Sonoma that I spend a fair amount of money customizing, and we also have a Blazer that I spent a fair amount on car seats for, but it's seldom used too.
I should sell one of them, as I have a work vehicle and a stay-at-home wife...

At least you are being honest. I am young too (under 25) but I just have a different mindset. The environment, war and poverty is more important to me than noise, fast car and chicks. But as they say, to each is own

Oh yeah, nothing impresses us more than noisy mufflers, too loud stereos, and lots of yelling and whistling out the windows. That's why we are so happy to walk by construction sites.

Yeah, I always wanted a car that sounded like my father after Thanksgiving dinner.

Don't get me wrong, I think we're seeing a rebirth of the 60's drag racing scene, which is a good thing (to me anyway, who spent a good deal of his youth hanging around the local drag strips on one pit crew or another). Heck, I've even thought about building a car myself, just to get back into it. There's got to be an exhaust system with a sweeter tone, though.

The problem with electrics is the power source. While batteries have come a long way in recent years, they still can't match the power of octane on a weight or space basis yet. Eventually they will, but it's a ways off still.
