Hi All,

I'm looking for suggestions about hotels in Las Vegas. We're planning on staying on decently nice hotels, but not expensive. Something like Luxor or Paris, but not Ceasars or Bellagio.

I'm looking for previous stories - or even horror stories. Anything would be great.

We're looking for somthing that is on the strip and that is roughly ~150/night for two people (one king size bed). Anything cheaper would be great too!

My wife and I stayed at the MGM Grand. This was our first trip. We were satisfied with the accomodations. It's at the end of the strip near the airport. New York-New York is across the street. Price per night was average for the type of hotel.

The least expensive places are in the older strip area.

Best thing to do is web search on Las Vegas. Pick the best price. Your local newspaper travel section will also have Vegas deals. There are also coupon deals for meals and other stuff on some Vegas web sites.

My final impression: So much to do and see, so little time!

The only time I've ever been to Vegas is for Comdex, so I'd have no good frame of reference. Nearly _all_ the hotels are expensive for that week. The only inexpensive one I have experience with is the Palace Station. Not great. Not bad.

i really like the flamingo hilton. the rooms are very nice, the pool is cool (nothing beats real flamingos walking around!) and because it's main floor/casino isn't as fancy as MGM or New York New York, it forces you to check out the rest of the strip instead of just sitting in your own hotel casino all day.

I stayed in Vegas twice, once in the tropicana and once in a motel on the strip (forgot the name, was between the MGM and the Hard rock Cafe.

The Flamengo was fun, an olderstyle Casino hotel.
The motel was cheap, but good. Check out online deals and the local newspaper and radio for deals.. on the motelroom we got a $10 a night discount because we found a coupon... We ended up paying $50 a night for the 2 of us..
I actually liked the motel better because when you are tired you can go to your room straight away and dont have to walk through the casino floor to get to your room..

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Another tip.. if you want to gamble cheaper, go to the older casino's. The new casino's need to get a bigger return on their investment so they won't have the cheap tables...

great value for money was the Champagne buffet at Caesars.. Buffet + unlimited Champagne for about $20 a head...
I guess they try to get you drunk so you spend more gambling

The Mirage

The Mirage will run you about $150 or so during peak weeks. If you call and make reservations and state that you are their on vacation and not as part of a convention - the rooms can go for well under $100 per night during the week.

Harrah's also has nice rooms and is quite inexpensive as well. They have an excellent restaraunt called The Range if you like steak. The Mirage has a California Pizza Kitchen inside and of course is the home to Ziefried and Roy. Treasure Island has very similar accomodations to the Mirage and you can work the same deal by stating your their on vacation and not part of a group - to get the best rate.

I would recommend all of the hotels that you mentioned and the ones above - I've stayed in them all.

Even the MGM Grand has some decent rates as well as Cesaer's during the week.

Their is a place similar to Palace Station - called Sam's Town. It's a Bowling Center as well. It is not on the Strip but is east of the Strip and the rooms can be had for less than $50. It's clean and only a few year's old. If you have a car the strip is only about 10 minutes across town on Flamingo Road.

If you are driving or renting - nearly all of the hotels have free Valet Parking (you should tip) which can be convenient for travelling amongst the several hotels. I'd recommend that if you want to do serious gambling - go to old downtown - the slots seem to be a little looser their and the card games are using smaller deck "shoes".

Catch a show but you'll probably need reservations in advance - although half price tickets can be had if you are willing to wait in the half price line the day of the show. Nearly all of the good hotels have good shows - Mystere at Treasure Island is a great family show. O at Bellagio is similar to Mystere except that it involves a lot of water.
