Never managed to hotsync!!!!
I have had my Visor Handspring for nearly 3 weeks now and cannot get the stupid thing to hotsync at all!! Every time I press the hotsync button it freezes my whole computer and I have to re-boot.
I have tried everything - soft re-sets, hard re-sets, I have uninstalled and re-installed the software until I'm blue in the face! I have downloaded the latest version from the Internet - I have checked my USB port is working (it is, cos I can used my web-cam and digital camera through it)I even tried it on my work computer and it actually works fine there - just not on my home one where I want it to work!!!!
I cant use their help-line as I'm at work during their hours but my daughter rang up for me - shes not good with computers but the general idea is that there is some file missing from my version of Windows 98 (Second Edition).
Does anyone know of this problem and what file it is? It looks like I wont be able to try the help-line again until my holidays at Xmas and its really driving me daft!!!
Any suggestions would be appreciated
If the USB port works for your camera I doubt there's a problem with a missing Windows file. For starters, make sure that Local USB is enabled properly in the HotSync manager on the desktop. Also, check out this page from Handspring regarding sync issues. One of the things it mentions is the USB registry utility that has helped others.

Thanks for your reply - I have already been there and downloaded the file to no avail.
My daughter got back on the helpline and have now been told to re-install Windows! Surely there must be something else I can try before I take this drastic measure!!!
Any suggestions anyone??????
cheers

Before reinstalling Windows, try this:
First, run ScanDisk to check the hard drive. It's possible there are files cross-linked or otherwise damaged to the point that Windows is getting confused (not hard to do
)
Next, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and select the System Information app. Open the Tools menu and select System File Checker. When that app starts, make sure "Scan for altered files" is selected and click the Start button. This will scan your Windows core system files and notify you if any are outdated or invalid. If it finds something out of whack, follow the prompts to restore the affected file.
If it finds and repairs any files, try hotsyncing. If it still doesn't work, do another uninstall/reinstall of the Palm Desktop. If that doesn't help, flip a coin, say a prayer, and consider reinstalling Windows.
