-- Got my memplug today, anyone else? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13202)
Hi all,
I finally got my memplug today, I am very pleased with it, but I noticed a couple of minor quirks.. On a few jpg images some of the really black areas became white (this is a bug I am sure), and I am having trouble figuring out how to get gMovie to see the files on the smartmedia card..
Anyone have suggestions

Mine is "in the mail" (ordered it on Saturday), so I can let you know as soon as it gets here.
My question is: how did you get the JPEGs on the card? Do you have a camera that takes SmartMedia?

Wherever you go, there you are.
I have an Olympus digital camera, it uses SmartMedia.
You can also use a USB smartmedia reader/writer to copy files to the smartmedia card as well.

I got mine today also. havent tried it yet, but
did you follow the piece of paper with the cd that
said create a directory "/palm/programs/gmedia" on
the SMC, and put the files into that directory?
I didn't get that bit of paper..!!
I'll try it, thanks..
fyi - It worked!!! Thanks again..

Arg, I want mine now
. I ordered it on Friday but they didn't ship it till today (Well they sent me an e-mail yesterday saying "Your order has shipped on the 19th). I got 2nd day air so I guess I'll had it Wed.
Bought a Lexar reader for my PC at Target yesterday just for this too.

Got mine today too. Haven't had much time to play with it, but most of what I've seen I like. One thing I don't like are the two little rounded feet on the back of the module. I may cut them off.
One interesting thing I noticed is that unless you actually have a smartmedia card in the memplug the visor doesn't recognize the module is plugged in.

What are the stats on the Lexar reader? USB, I am guessing, but what price? Target you say? Interesting...definately have to pick something like that up. Anyone else have a SmartMedia reader for their PC?

Can you make multiple backups to one SmartMedia card with the software, or can you just make one backup per card?

Smart Media Reader
Costco.com has a reader that has two slots, one for smartmedia and one for compact flash cards. Runs ~30+shipping. Pretty good deal if you want the flexibility later to read CF cards.

Memplug
got mine today...
havent had much time to play but some quick observations
Software well done...
A real springboard, installs when inserted
moving files to sm card slower than moving to cf card
1/8 th over hang on card a pain. i keep thinking i'm gonna squash it...

I realize why the feet are there. They make it sit funny in the case I'm using. I'll probably take them off and the raised grip area. The module isn't hard to get in and out so it shouldn't hurt.
Just got mine this morning, and picked up a Lexar 16MB card at Wal-Mart.
Absolutely fantastic! PiBackup worked great, and I've already got some stuff stored via PiMover. I haven't tested PiViewer yet-- my digital camera is at home. gMovie is a nice bonus, but I haven't really been itching to play video on my PDA. gMovie might be a good replacement for the Handspring photo album, though.
I can't wait for the "PiSpotRun" doc reader, though. Being able to store reams of reference docs on smartmedia cards will make this the best multi-purpose springboard module I've seen.
