Will there be a new Visor on Oct. 15?

I read the news release on Handspring's request for FCC approval of the Visor Treo, and noticed that it had been delayed until October 15 at the request of Handspring. This fact, coupled with Handspring's price reduction of the Visor Prism makes me wonder if there is a new Visor coming out on or after October 15.

I saw a post here that indicated that Staples wouldn't have any more Prisms in stock once the current inventory runs out, indicating that Handspring had stopped production of the Prism.

I also wonder if the new Handspring will have the Edge form factor (a color edge?). I have an Edge, and am about to dump it because I can't get a d*mn keyboard for it. Think Outside (who makes the folding keyboards) told me last week that they expect a keyboard for the Edge by the end of this month. Are they delaying release until Handspring comes out with a color Edge?

It makes no sense for Handspring to stop selling the Prism unless they are going to start producing a Prism with a new OS. They would still sell plenty of Prisms at $299 if the new color models are $499. Just look at what they did with the Deluxe when the Platinum came out. You can still buy them. A color device for $299 is a good price point to continue.

They should drop the solo and Deluxe, come up with a unbreakable unit for $99.

Also they need a $399- $499 unit to keep average price high enough to keep stockholders happy.

I agree that they should continue to sell the Prism, but I was responding to another post on this board where someone was told by a Staples employee that Staples wasn't getting any more Prisms in stock. On the other hand, I imagine that Handspring may not want to have too many models out there, so they may be dropping the Prism in favor of a new higher end color handheld. If Handspring wants to go head to head with Palm on each model (and I know that this is contrary to Handspring's plan in the past), there is no midrange color model made by Palm which would compare to a $299 Prism, if Palm has discontinued the IIIc (which I think it has).

I also think that the Prism form factor is outdated, although that's just my opinion.

Arrow What I think

Well I think the Treo phones will be the only other new products from Handspring for this year. Maybe in the Spring we will see a new color unit. I think the Neo and Pro is it for new monochrome units from now on.

I hope you're wrong, but I'd bet money you're right.
