-- Visor not Synching (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2042)
Read all notes on bulletin board, so far still can't sync. Tried the soft re-set, re-installing software, even tried my son's cradle and my son's Visor. Still no luck, it just says "Connecting to the desktop" for about 1 minute and then says, "The connection between your handheld and your desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." The USB port in the computer says to be enabled and working properly. What gives. I have a Palm V that works perfectly in a serial port, but deleted that software prior to installing Visor Software. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So far my son and I are not to thrilled with Visors yet. I am sure they are great when they work properly.
How do you know that your USB port is indeed working? Do you have other USB equipment that you can test to verify? Just about all the cases I've come across has NOT been a problem with the Visor but with the USB port not being enabled in the computer's BIOS or a first generation USB equipped computer that may need some type of driver upgrade.
So first check that your USB port is indeed working and then report back to the list.
Regards,
David
Have you _ever_ successfully hot synched? If so then probably one of the fixes recently published should fix you up. I keep having this problem and for me the fix is a pin-reset. Sounds like you tried that. One thing you didn't list is the regedit fix. There's a key you can modify/delete in your registry that's supposed to help. Look for a thread called Suddenly Can't Hotsync for info.
We had this same problem with my husband's Visor -- until we discovered (by trial and error) that the Palm Desktop had to be open when we did the synch. Once we did that, it worked just fine. Try it.
Thanks for all the info. Got into BIOS and "VOILA" it worked. Thanks again
SherylKing,
You can set up the software to run with or without the Palm desktop open. (Go to setup.) I have both the serial port and USB versions running just as a test, and both work well at anytime, with just a press of the button.
(The serial is painfully slow in comparison to USB tho'.)
Thanks for making me look like boy genius dtgillis! Somehow the boss's new super computer came with USB disabled in the BIOS and he never checked it. This was my first attempt editing BIOS and it wasn't too scary. Always try something new on someone else's computer first. Now if you could only give me some suggestions on how to get him organized.
