Well, actually, like a PC, I think it all boils down to the number of available COM (communications) ports on the Visor.
While PCs typically have 4 COM ports, the Visor has only 2.
Therefore, the infrared port takes up one COM port while the USB/serial connection takes up the other COM port.
This means that you can use the modem and the keyboard with no problems, because the Modem will take over the COM for the infrared while the keyboard uses the other.
The problem is that Omniremote tries to access the same COM port that the modem uses, which gives rise to the conflict.
