Talking

After getting extremely tired of feeling like Batman wearing a utility belt, I decided to order an E-Holster. After wearing it for a day or two, I must say that it feels pretty good to only have my work phone on my belt at work (my personal cell and Visor being in the E-Holster). I'm still not _totally_ used to having something under my arms like this, but I have to say that it's definitely more comfortable that having two phones and a visor on my belt.

Checked out the images at their site. Not a bad idea, but couldn't see myself getting through someplace like airport security very easily with one of them things.

The e-holster is a nice piece of work, I have one and it works very well. Takes a while to get used to having things under your arms but it does get the electronic gizmos off the Bat-belt .

Hey Toby:

Welcome to the club. I've had my e-holster since March and love it. I have also been through the following airports while wearing the e-holster with no problems at all: Denver, Reno, Salt Lake City, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta.

If you ever get tired of having your work cell phone on your belt, you can always buy another cell phone holder and attach it underneath the existing cell phone holder. A DBA friend of mine does that. So under one arm he has two cell phones, under the other he has his palm and a pager.

I have found that you need to adjust the straps to get the e-holster to hang the most comfortable. What works best for me is to have the front straps shorter than the rear so both my cell phone and Visor hang in a slightly nose up position.

Take care,

Jerry

How were you wearing it (over a shirt, under a shirt/jacket)?

LOL...actually, I've been considering something similar since I just ordered a Stowaway.

Ditto. I've been wearing it only a couple of days, and that was one of the first things I adjusted.

Thanks for the input.

Question Are you getting snickers from behind your back?

That eHolster definately looks interesting. I'm wondering how many laughs it creates around the office due to it looking like NYPD Blue. Has anyone noticed yours? I may try the $41 version.

Lightbulb

Why pay more for when you can get the real thing for less?

I bought a police holster from the local army/navy surplus
store, and have been carrying by Visor with that. Free's up
a lot of room in my pockets. The great part is that it only
costs $12!

It's gone fairly unnoticed since I wear black T-shirts with a camp shirt over it usually, but considering that a person or two already joked about the fact that my cell phones made me look like a gunslinger, it's not really much different.

Whatever works for you. I was just willing to spend a bit extra to get a more form-fitting design.

Also, a note on E-holster's customer service:

Their website seems a bit mixed up on the descriptions of the small, medium, and large phone holsters. The stock leather holster is slightly too big for my phone (Nokia 6120), so I called to see about an exchange. They're cross-shipping a replacement to me today. I also inquired about getting a set of extensions and another set of D-rings to make a stabilizer to attach to my belt (if you've ever seen a real shoulder holster, you'll know what I'm talking about). The rep (Suzi) asked me why I was asking. When I explained, she said that they hadn't put it on the website yet, since it was new, but they now make a Y-strap for that exact purpose (two attachments to the holster and one to your belt or pants). Considering the trend in most tech companies' customer service these days, it's nice to see a company that still believes in old fashioned customer service. I'm guessing that they're still a small company, but color me impressed. That kind of response alone makes me feel warm and fuzzy about the purchase.

Cool Ordered my over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder today

I first ordered the $41 neoprene version last night. Then I noticed how much longer the cell phone case is than my phone is (7" case, 4" phone). Then I saw the replacement case sizes and that the smaller cell phone case they offer would fit my Sanyo 3500 to a T, so I called today to see if I could swap out before they shipped. They didn't make a smaller cell case for the neoprene model, so I couldn't do a straight swap. So I went with the next model up with the cordura cases. She said they're discontinuing the neoprene model because it's so hard to get the devices in and out of. Also they would have had the cell phone size option available on the site as you place the order, but they're having trouble with Mindsprings servers (I'm guessing that's their host). Maybe soon.

I'll have to invest in some of those black T-shirts. :-) I'll let you know when it arrives.

Dave

I've joined the ranks of ultimate geekdome

Well, my e-holster arrived yesterday (only two days shipping!) and I must say I really like it! I'm very surprised at how easy it is to get to my Visor and cell phone when they're under my arms like that. It is definately very comfortable to wear too. Yesterday I emailed my fiancee the link to their website and she was like "Ok, you've got to be kidding." I guess you either love it or hate it. :-) I haven't done a "field test" with it yet in the real world since I got in late last night, but I'll be heading to the store shortly to see what peoples heads do there. Cheers!

Dave

I love how my Landware BurroPak works with my black T-shirt and suspenders. (the BurroPak is along the same lines as the E-holster)
Most people don't even notice that I am wearing it. The straps are covered by the suspenders, and the black pouch is under my arm. The bits that are exposed blend in with the black T-Shirt.

How many of us haven't even been teenagers for quite some time?

To answer your previous post as well, I actually got far more comments on my various belt holsters that I had before as compared to the e-Holster. Evidently different people have different ideas of what looks "so stupid". Imagine that.

Those of us who wear heavy objects on our belts and do not want our pants to fall down.
While wearing my BurroPak, I have a leather box on my belt that contains:

  • my checkbook
  • spare batteries for my Visor
  • a Leatherman multi-tool
  • a swiss army knife
  • a maglight
  • a pointing laser
  • a centerpunch (to escape submerged cars)
  • an x-acto knife
  • a tire pressure gauge
  • an extendible pointer
  • three shuriken
  • a comb
  • a lighter
  • 24 pens in assorted colors, metallic, day-glo, fountain, etc.
  • spare Visor delux stylus (back up to my black Panache)

What is a x-acto knife?

A knife with a pen-like handle that is fitted to use replaceable blades on one end. See - http://www.hunt-corp.com/office/xacto/catframe.html

To see a picture of the classic x-acto knife (using the above URL), click on the triangle to the left of "Knives" and then click on "Medium Weight Precision No. 2 Knife"
