Yes, it is sometimes difficult to navigate that site. Here is the link:

I ordered my Stowaway from Targus on April 2, and was immediately charged on my card. I have not received anything from them regarding shipment, backorders, etc. Just my confirmation. According to their order tracking on the web site, it has not yet been shipped. I sent them an email last week and rec'd no response.

Yes, it is a strange way to do business and I will not purchase from Targus again online, especially when reliable PalmGear can deliver!

Wink

Good one Eug, but I'd suggest adding the word "NOW" to the end of that link...

I am the Web Shop Manager for the company IO work for. We are taking our first steps in the world of ecommerce, but there are a few things that have been made clear to us early on. One of them is: It is illegal to charge for a product before it ships. If it is electronic and the customer starts a download, then you can charge, but in this case, it appears Targus is breaking the law by charging our credit cards before shipping the product.

Now I am not a lawyer. This information was given to me by our consultants so I do not claim to be correct, but it would be interesting to see if Targus has implemented any illegal e business practices.

Well, Targus said "Early to mid-may" for my 4/4 order.

PalmGear said "I can ExpressMail one to you tomorrow".

Targus said "Yes, you can cancel. You should have your money back in 3-5 days"

John said "Targus: Cancel. PalmGear: Yes, please."

Sigh. Heck of a way to run a business.

Yeah,

I talked to some resellers including compusa, and they are thinking that in the next week, they are getting their visor stowaways.

Another thing, the guy from the compusa 800 no said that they'd be selling them for $79.99; is that how much you paid for it?

That would be awesome if its $79.99!! Its cheaper AND there's not wait or shipping charges!

I'm checking CompUSA today. I hope they have them.

Angry

I just called CompUSA, Staples AND CircuitCity and nobody could even find the Stowaway. It's not listed on any of their websites either. As a matter of fact, the VISOR isn't even listed on their sites.

I'm confused...I hear stories of targus shipping to CompUSA,etc. i read posts of people actually BUYING a stowaway from a store...and their databases don't have it???

I KNOW i've seen the Visor in Staples...yet they don't know what it is????

Geez.

CompUSA's SKU# for the Targus Stowaway is: 374337. Have the redshirts search for 'targ key' and it'll pop right up. All the stuff made by handspring is listed under the 'hspng' name in the inventory system.

Doh... just now realized after the next post was posted that I got the SKU wrong.. its 274337, not 374337. Silly me.

Thanks hellion_Prime (i feel like i'm in a Transformers episode remember Optimus Prime?) I just called CompUSA again and gave them the SKU number and it didn't come up...so i told him to search for Targ Key and it came up...a USB Collapsable keyboard...and then he said there is a second model called the Handspring Collapsable keyboard...huh.

He said that stores should have them this weekend. I bet i get a different answer if i call back again but let me just get kinda excited for awhile before calling back ok?

I just got off the phone with my local CompUSA, and they found the Stowaway with the SKU. Unfortunately, they don't have any here, but he did say the list price is $99.99.

Bummer.

Talking

Stowaways at CompUSA in Madison, Wisconsin! Called the 800 number to check availability and came back that they had 10 on hand at $99.99.

Yep, indeed!

Make that 9 on hand 30 minutes later. Check out clerk stopped during ringing up the item to marvel at it. He didn't know what it was!

Exclamation

Well, I placed an Order for a Stowaway at PalmGear, and got this confirmation email:
"Quantity: 1 Price Each: $99.95 Stowaway Portable Keyboard for Visor -ON BACKORDER FROM MANUFACTURER. Expected In Stock Date Product will be out of stock until the week of 5/25/00"

I emailed the guys at palm gear, and told them to cancel my order since the wait time was ridiculous (I didn't wait that long for my visor even ). But they immediately emailed me back and said they are going to get a shipment of 300 more Stowaways in the next 3 days! So HOPEFULLY I have the keyboard in hand by next week sometime. yay!

Thumbs up

Received my Stowaway today. Thanks again, Kemp, for the great tip. I was very impressed with PalmGear's service and follow-up. Hang in there, Vertigo, I don't think they would have promised if they didn't think they could deliver. When I called late in the day on Tuesday, they cautioned me several times that they might not be able to ship it out until the next day. However, they did in fact ship it on Tuesday (although Airborne Express didn't get it here until today.) I haven't used it yet-I'm still busy opening and closing it!

I don't get this. People seem to be getting stowaways at CompUSA, but it isn't listed anywhere on the website.

Crazy.
