He won' allow me to add anything to his computer, no conduits, no programs, nothing. Quicktime is not installed on this computer, just WMP. So I really hope that you don't go to straight Quicktime. Probably the best solution would to provide both types of streams.

Not sure if this is something that might interest you, but I recently added a 4Port Router/Switch to my home. I am using a Cable Modem and bought it to do some home networking. It has 4Ports as well as one UpLink Port for adding more Routers. Cost was only $79.99 at BestBuy and it is made by LinkSYS.
The beauty of the whole thing, is it is so simple. Not only is it a Router it also acts as your DHCP server, making home networking really easy. You just go EtherNet from your Cable Modem to your Router and then hook up your PC's. I currently have three machines attached it is awesome. Took me no time to get it working and you would not have to make one change to your Dad's Machine.
If you are interested in more details, shoot me an email. There are tons of features, especially considering the cost.
