Upgrade shock. I had it. I found the web-style interface of 98 to be more annoyance than enhancement. Even when I set it for 'Classic' and tweaked settings extensively, they would often revert to their native webbishness.
I took the brute force route:
1. Go to www.98lite.net
2. DL the free version of the 98lite installer.
3. Run it. Be sure to have your Win95 CD handy.
4. Follow the prompts. Choose the Lean and Mean installation.
Installation is really a no-brainer. 98lite will copy the necessary shell files from the Win95 disk to your system, then patch your OS. Simply put, you'll be running the Win98 kernel with the Win95 shell. Works great for me. Gives you all the hardware (yes, USB) support of Win98 with the lean Explorer shell of Win95.
Plus, if you happen to have something against IE4/5, you can completely remove it from your system also (despite MS's claims necessary integration).
