I don't think the customer should expect that type of service, I mean we all know that technology is advancing at a rapid pace. Today's products will be obsolete in six months. When we decide to invest in a PDA (Palm or Handspring), it has become buy at our own risk because we all know that a new and better product is on the horizon. Like I said, we all went in knowing the risk.
Sure, Handspring's decision whether to make such an offer should be based only on profitability... but it would be interesting to see what the impact would be on sales, profit and customer loyalty if they did offer some kind of deal like 'swap in a VDX less than a year old and get $100 off the Edge'. Sure there will always be those who would buy the latest model anyway, but there are also those, like me, for whom the cost isn't justified (tempting tho' it may be!). And I'd just love to see them offer a 'trade in your Palm and get $100 off the Visor of your choice' or something. I just think it would be interesting to see the long-term profitability/market share impact....
