Di was right they are expensive, esp. after you factor in shipping. I know of some one who uses scotch tape in the graffiti area. I can't see paying over $20 for what is a few big pieces of scotch tape
I did the tape bit and will never do it again or recommend it to anyone. I was as careful as I could be with my Deluxe and taped the grafitti area, only to discover several noticable scratches on the screen one day. I have no idea where they came from.
There are a thousand ways to scratch a screen, and very few ways to satisfactorily repair them. Most of the extended warranties only go so far (Handsprings only covers 1 screen, etc.), do-it-yourself screen replacement still costs $50-70, 'fix it yourself' options (glue patches, abrasive cleaners, etc.) are iffy at best...
As far as full screen options go, there are the good, the bad, and the ugly.
UGLY choices include most home-made protectors. They tend to be too thick, to easily scratched, bubbly, wrinkled, etc. I have tried clear vinyl, mylar, Lexan, polypropolene, and several types of tapes. I gave up.
BAD choices take too much away, or are a poor value. Many textured protectors, in their attempts to reduce glare, mess up the clarity or visibility too much. Some are far too easily scratched (such as the Radio Shack protectors)- it is a really poor value to have to toss out a protector after only a few days.
GOOD protectors are easy to install (without bubbles or flaws), nearly crystal clear, have good 'writing texture', are scratch resistant, and provide peace of mind.
I find that the PDAScreenProtector Generation 2 and the Brando Screen Protectors do just that. Others may also, but I have tried these under a variety of conditions.
As far as value- $20 for a protector that does an excellent job for several months in a row seems to me to be money well spent- heck, we spend that much on software that we only play for a few weeks, then abandon (look at the thread about Monopoly!)
