For those of you patiently waiting for the stowaway, hang in there because it is definitely worth the wait. I received a pre-production stowaway for review on my website (http://www.palmsavvy.com) and I just want to say that it has changed the way I use my visor. It is so portable and makes data input so convenient and I have used it extensively since I received it. I now keep a journal on my visor and have captured much more information in meetings I attend. In one meeting, I was able to take real-time notes with the Stowaway+Visor and beam them to the interested parties (fellow Palm users) at the meetings conclusion.

Anyway, hang it there...it's worth the wait.

Talking

I was checking the Targus site religiously to see when they would start taking orders, and slacked off for the last couple of days. Thanks for the heads up!

If you need a fix and have some time to waste, go to CompUSA (or the like) and check out the Palm version of the Stowaway. The guy took it out of the box and let me play around with it. It's AMAZING! I had to resist the temptation to buy it so I'd have a surrogate until my Visor keyboard gets here. Pathetic I know.

hmmm, 2 weeks.

Cool

Oh boy, another wait!

Just ordered mine. This is gonna be qool, I just know it.

And yeah, Andriod, I think "The Pouch" is going to make a good carrying case for the Stowaway. I happen to have one sitting around, since I yielded to temptation and picked up a nifty Rhodiana case recently.

Actually, that wasn't temptation, just fear. I was wearing "The Pouch" in a different location for some reason, and absent-mindedly missed while putting the Visor in. Oops. I did manage to get my foot out to break the fall; my foot is softer than the concrete in the garage. Visor was fine- better than I was, in any, er, case.

Anywho, it was time for a "use in the case and get some protection" case.

And save "The Pouch" for the Stowaway.

To the Batcave, Robin!

The Stowaway comes in a case -- it's neoprene and zips all around. I don't know what was meant in the post about charging a bunch for the case. Just like the Visor, which came with a leater slip case -- but folks seem to want a case which is specialized to their personal needs. I've been a beta tester for the Stowaway (I know, lucky me!), and the come-with-it case is just fine!

Wink

Count me in also!! I am know on the waiting list.... I went to best buy today to get the backup and flash modules. While I was there I was testing out the palm version of the stowaway :-) man that is a neat keyboard. Question is this... When using the visor for rapid (typed) data entry or notes etc... what software do you use for that? Is it just done in memopad or what??

Onelineoff, if it is something quick, I just put it in notepad. If it is something long, I use HiNote (no 4k limit, has a desktop client, hierarchial, find it a www.palmgear.com).

Just ordered one as well (DOh!)

Looks pretty neat and I think I'll enjoy the bugger quite a bit. If anything, 100 bucks to save me from getting a laptop is quite a good bargain.

I played around with the gotype and didn't like that much, so I figured it was worth the extra 30 bucks for something that was "smaller," at least with storage ,but bigger when it came time to get down to business. I'm too trained in the ways of typing to adjust to a smaller keyboard. I figure with corrections I'll be just as fast as grafitti.

Question

hmmm... correct me if I'm wrong, but i vaguely remembering hearing about the Stowaway as a "Think Outside innovation", and seeing a flash (shockwave) demo of it folding somewhat like a funky map.

So I'm checking out Targus to find a case to HOPEFULLY fit both my visor and my soon to be ordered Stowaway, and i see "Stowaway..a Targus innovation. .. one in a long line blah blah" and the flash demo simply bends in 3 places and folds in on itself.

help.. whats the difference? or are they the same? thanks

As far as I know, Think Outside invented the Stowaway keyboard, Targus is manufacturing/distributing the Visor version while Palm is manufacturing/distributing the Palm version.

So they are all pretty much the same thing just different packaging.

Unhappy

I got this e-mail as well. When I first saw it in my inbox, I was excited, thinking it was probably a shipping notice. I'm not smiling now.

tikkun / euangel:

I too have received the email - BUT - last night my credit card was charged for the keyboard. Hopefully this means that it's about to ship. At any rate, since they've charged my card, they now have 30 days to get one in my hands.

Keepin' my fingers crossed.

30 days??? What does that mean? Is that something from your credit card? A law for business? I'm just wondering because at first, they got my exp date wrong and I calle dthem and t heysaid that everything was billed correctly.. As in they billed the second I placed the order.

I spoke to CS a day ago. She said they had enough keyboards coming in to handle ALL orders thus far. They expect to ship the week of April 24th-28th.

I forgot to ask her if they included any software with the keyboard. Any news on this?

Based on the review that James put up on VC, only the drivers come with the Stowaway, no DOC editor or anything.

Lightbulb

I plan on using QED, as it has done well for doc editing and transferring to wordperfect form quite well with my notetaking in college.

I was disturbed by the email Targus sent out announcing the delay, so I started asking questions. Something the email customer service rep wrote in one reply caused me to ask whether the retail outlets would have the Stowaway before their Web shop. This is what s/he had to say:

Dear Kemp,

In regards to your email, we apologize for the confusion that the last email
may have caused. Yes, most retail sellers will receive the product before
the Targus online store will. If you have any other questions please feel
free to contact us.

Respectfully,
Targus; online store

Alright boys and girls get ready to cancell your online orders and pick your Stowaway up at your local Targus retailer.
